Moderator application discussion

If you have any comments or questions regarding the moderator application (see announcement for info), post here.

Note: Some people have been confused about the application process. You should cut and paste the questions from the announcement into an email to me, answer them, and then send.

In case any of you are interested in what has been said about becoming a moderator previously by the admins . . .

Quote:
I don't know about other boards, but here it's by invitation only. General Mods help the admins out with things like dealing with users who cause problems, etc. Mods of forums like the RPG forum help keep things under control. Mods of the LOTR forums have a good knowledge of Tolkien's work, as well as being trustworthy. We choose ppl to be mods who contribute positively to the Entmoot communitee, show that they are trustworthy, dont' cause problems, and also we just play favorites

We look for people who participate a lot in the forums and spend a lot of time here. I believe all the moderators and admins have been here since at least 2000 (some from '99), although not necessarily on their current user name. (Inoldonil registered under that name in Jan 2001 but was "Lorco Books" dating from July 2000).

Nice quotes. The application, though, is designed to make the process more fair and perhaps open our eyes to people we wouldn't have normally considered.

Anyone is welcome to apply, but as a minimum for serious consideration I'd suggest one month posting experience at Entmoot and at least 100 total posts.

A moderator application form... interesting idea...
Well, in case you hadn't guessed, I'm not allowed to be a moderator by my parents. So I can't even apply. Good luck to everyone else! In case you get the job, remember..."With great power comes great responsibility." (Oh WOW. I'm quoting from "Spiderman." How scary is THAT! )

Is there an age limit? And what exactly do the moderators do?

See the announcement and the FAQ for information on what moderators do. Basically, they keep everything running smoothly and efficiently by keeping track of discussion and modifying posts as necessary.

There is no age limit; the current mods and admins range from 14-46. I was 13 when we started Entmoot, and I've been on message boards since I was 10. I think some of our younger members are just as literate and competent as people three times their age.

Will Tater ever visit as a regular poster, or is he leaving Entmoot entirely?

I'm not sure, but if he does come back, it won't be for a long time.

What exactly do you mean by "other aliases/usernames"?

We mean, do you go by any other usernames or personas on this board. You can tell what you go by on other boards or sites, but its not necessary. This question is needed because there have been users in the past who have had multiple personas - made up a whole family in fact.

And sorry, tater is not leaving, he has already left - as in the past tense. As ben said, tater will not be back here for a while if ever - so leaving messages for him and saying goodbye to him is pointless. A good gesture - but pointless - as he will most likely never see them. We are sad about Tater leaving too , but posting for him not to go when he is already long gone seems silly.

There is an annoucment concerning the departure of Tater on the Tolkien Trail home page. His departure is one major reason why we need new moderators.

If you think you have what it takes, please apply. If you find that you are always criticizing moderators/admins for what they do and think that you would do a better job, apply. Everyone has an equal chance - we are reviewing all applications. You all have until July 23rd.

Place. Too big. To moderate. I just like posting to add to the confusion. Plus, my frequent visiting days have dimmed. I wonder how many people will apply . . .
