Re: A HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!
Hmmm.... an Irish Vulcan! Most interesting indeed! I guess you would be of the O`Spocks family? > X-Rogue: Why, of course, you`re included! Everyone is Irish on March 17th don`t you know? Hey, I`m of Scottish ancestry, too (along with Irish and German and a wee bit o' English, too) - clan MacDonald, although our family goes by the anglicized version of the name. Scotch and Cajun - hmmm, another most interesting mix. > Did you all have a fun Saturday? I most certainly did! I love Irish Day! I can`t believe I`m up this early! >Hello to you, too, Idril. Wow, Ukranian, Welsh, Irish, Scotch, and English. Cool! Did you celebrate yesterday? > I hope you all have a nice rest of the weekend! Take care. -G.

Re: A HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!
Right mixed lot we are. I didn't celebrate yesterday, I was in London getting pissed off w/the FARS.
We used to celebrate christmas twice, once on the usual date, and again two weeks after because that's when the Ukranians celebrate. Don't know why that stopped. Another useless piece of information for everyone. Anyone else's family have strange customs? My scotish relations have some very strange ones on Burns night, involving the ceremonial carrying out of the Haggis amid the skirling of bagpipes... really. It's kind of a kid's thing, but they have neighbors with little kids, so they join in. |

Well, I've heard of the McEwens. I'm MacKay, if I recall correctly. And yes, it was an interesting Saturday. Actually got to relax and read for much of it.

Well, I'm mostly Scottish, Irish, with a tad bit of American Indian! McCommon, but I also married into the MacMillans!

Re: A HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!
Wow, we have a lot of interesting mixes `round here. Lots of Scottish and Irish blood `round here, too. GLAURUNG: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Did you have a nice b-day? I hope it was a happy one. Wow, IDRIL - I haven`t heard mention of Burns night in ages. Do people still do those traditions? We never did anything special for that day. I have friends who are Ukranian; they celebrate both Christmas dates. It`s always fun to go to their house and celebrate a second time. Did your family just get away from the tradition over the years? JOHNNY L: I`m with you on the Mountain Dew thing. I don`t care for green (or any kind of beer). Although, I do indulge in my traditional shot or two of Irish Whiskey on St. Pat`s Day. BIRIWILG: Can`t say that I know any McEwans personally but I have heard the name many times.

Re: Happy Saint Paddy's Day
TAR MELIAN: Which Am. Indian tribe if that`s not too personal a question? I`ve always been interested in the Native American peoples and their history and culture. Do you get into that part of your heritage at all? I`m of German ancestry as well as Scotch and Irish but I must admit that I tend to be more interested in the Irish and Scotch parts of my ancestry. Perhaps I should explore my German roots a bit more. X-Rogue: Sounds like you had a nice, relaxing weekend? What sort of interesting material are you reading? DARN!!!!!! I still can`t get my paragraphs to work! Ugh!!!!!!!!!

tribe
Gal 1, I don't really know. I've asked my aunts about it, but all we know is that my great grandmother was like 1/4 Indian. We can only assume what history tells us about tribes that once lived in south Alabama and Mississippi.

McEwen
Wow! I didn't know that anybody else knew that the McEwens existed! It always takes forever to find our crest at Scottish festivals. I went to a lovely Celtic celebration at my church yesterday. The music was good and the dancers were excellent. It was a real treat.

Re: McEwen
I love Celtic festivals! We have a big Highland Games festival here in our area every September! People come from all over the States and even from "across the pond". It`s so much fun! I love to see those guys in kilts slinging heavy objects around. They also have a huge tug of war competition where the different clans go up against each other. It`s a blast! And sometimes a bit painful. Rope burns and bodies crunching to the ground. It`s out and out riotous when you get one of those rainy, muddy days! I`ll have to make sure to look up the McEwan clan this year. The MacDonald clan is one of the most common and well-known clans so it`s easy to find crests and such for our clan. Pittsburgh has a large Irish festival every year. It`s a lot of fun, also. Great music and food and people! And lots of cultural history! And of course, lots of dancing! They get a lot of world-renowned groups that play at the festival. I hope they can get Clannad to come one of these years. That would be awesome! They`re my favorite 'traditional' Irish band. It`s one of the biggest festivals in the Pittsburgh area.

Dancers
It was more like a concert than a festival, actually. They had the Celtic Ensemble playing music and the Celtic Pride dancers dancing.

Re: Tartan
That is such an attractive tartan! The MacKays have a broad blue and green check, and I wish I had a link for it too.
I'm reading Wheel of Time, and I spent some time looking thru my Needlework patterns also. I REALLY need to get my crafting stuff organized. At the moment I am working on a cross-stiiched picture of the Lady of Shallot, a sampler for a friend, and I'll be starting on a triptych of a knight and lady soon. |
