HP and the Chamber of Secrets

Just finished book 2! A page-turner!

What happened with those plant-babies, tho?

Spiders - ugh! I'm with Ron on that one.

Yay Fawkes!

and what's with the sword in the hat? Didn't quite get that one ...

looking forward to #3 - what's the title, anyone? And is there a movie for #2?

#3 is HP and the Prisioner of Azkaban and it's awesome. Yes there are movies for #2 and #3. IMHO, #2 is the worst movie and #3 the best.

The Mandrakes? Are you talking about the book or the movie?

The sword is the sword of Godric Gryffindor. The Sorting hat also belonged to him, and only a true Gryffindor can get the sword from the hat.

The significance of this scene is that Harry definitely belongs in Gryffindor. He was having doubts about that. And any sword at all would be handy at this point.

In the movie, the Sword of Gryffindor is replaced by the Butter Knife of Gryffindor. Movie #2 isn't great, and completely forgettable until the end. It won't make your eyes bleed, but it's not a good adaptation of the book, nor does it stand alone as a good movie. Nice shiny CGI though.

Book 4 is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Book 5 is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Happy reading!

Rian,

WELCOME to the halls of Pottermania!

Now that you have read CoS, I suggest you read the thread Christian themes in Harry Potter. Then we can have a nice chat about JKR and where her fiction is going!

Welcome to the Potter-verse!

The Mandrakes were stewed in order to unpetrify the petrified students and Filch's cat, right?

Book 3 was my favorite for a long time . . . until book 5 came out. Book 3 is really, really good. Book 5 probably is my favorite now, but I have a great affection for book 3.

Contrary to most of the people here, I liked the second Harry Potter film a good deal- indeed more then the first. The acting was better and the drama was improved. In the third movie, things improved even more. I liked the third movie the best.

Since we haven't had potions, I can't be sure, but I'd go with chopped, boiled, mashed, strained, extracted, and rendered as options for the actual preparations!

Well they are just magical plants. They aren't people even if they look that way. (Unless they're sentient in some way... aaa my brain!)

That's horrible! The only difference between babies and teenagers is that teenagers have a tendecy to talk back to their parents in rude ways... nothing wrong with that!

I love what JKR did with the mandrake legend. The way she incorporates myths and folklore like that is one of the most fun things about her writing for me.
