Which character do you feel the safest with?

This is a question that I find interesting to ask people and I'd like to know what the rest of you think. I'm posting this in the Middle Earth forum because you can choose any character from any of the books you want so long as you think about the question before answering. Don't just say your favorite character or or lust object, really think about it.

If you were in Middle Earth which character would you feel safest with in a life or death situation and why?

I would say Gandalf for several reasons. He's a dependable friend, loyal and wise. Also, he's a tough fighter with conventional weapons - armed with a sword and staff, which I consider to be among the best designed weapons. He's also a great wizard, using his magic wisely, and to great effect. Even though he's very old, wise, and tough, he still doesn't let that make him too hardcore or uncaring. He's also merry and kind, and shows mercy which is very important. (He convinced Frodo to be merciful to Gollum, a decision that arguably saved the world.) He also has a healthy dose of luck, useful to any warrior.

Because of all these qualities, I would feel safest with him in a life and death situation.

Galadriel also ranks extremely high on dependability for many of the same reasons as Gandalf, plus she implicitly trusts Gandalf, showing excellent judgement.

I would also trust Legolas, Gimli, Sam (my favourite character), Elrond, Glorfindel, Luthien Tinuviel, and Aragorn.

I'd also rely on Yavanna, Manwe and Aule if they felt like bothering with Middle-earth.

I'd have to say Gandalf. He is arguably the most powerful creature on ME during the time he was there other then Saroun(after Sarumon joined Saroun). Also, I would fell pretty safe with Treebeard, or any of the Ents, as far as physical safety goes. But if there was magic involved, it'd have to be Gandalf.

I'd say Aragorn, Gandalf, Elrond, Glorfindel & Galadriel. I think they all compose unique characteristics about their own being, however they also hold certain aspects that are within the realm of safeness...

Beleg Cuthalion: most skilled of all the hunters in Middle Earth. Also, unlike other great warriors of the First Age, he himself had no doom laid upon him, although intertwined with others'.

Good point WallRocker! Out of the Ents, I'd feel safe with Treebeard and Quickbeam. And maybe I'd grow a bit too...

Well, you said ANY character!

But I would pick Gandalf, Elrond, Treebeard, or Finrod for physical beings I'd feel safest w/. And of course any of the Valar.

Seriously though, Beleg's a great choice, no doubt about it, but Gandalf ranks very highly up there as well.
Some other good choices, although they couldn't always defend you as well, are Sam Gamgee, Aragorn, Elrond, Galadriel, and Faramir.

i'd say Aragorn, because he's reassuring, Legolas because he's quick at drawing arrows (good for battle) and Gandalf because he's had experience!

Nah it would have to be Gandalf for me.........Either him or Bombadil..........tho' I think my patience would be tested with his contstant Ned Flanders-style yapping
