So we are all pretty much in agreement that it is Regulus. (Seems most likely)

Any one want to hazard a guess at how many horcruxes Regulus got to? If he destroyed them? What his motivations were?

The big question for me is how Regulus knew about the Horcrux, and how he managed to get past all the protections. Did he drink the potion, somehow get away, and the potion replenished itself (or he made a new batch)? Did he know some trick to get past the potion without drinking it? Or did he swap the lockets before the potion was added? I'm guessing either the first or last option, and that he was somehow involved with helping Voldy set up the cave, around the same time that he changed loyalties (also about the same time Harry was born). Since Voldy was semi-defeated by Harry soon afterwards, he never returned to the cave to check on his Horcrux. Or perhaps he did, but just verified that the potion was still there.
Did the potion have to actually be drunken, because if he were to just dump it, then he would have been able to get rid of it. And if he wasn't drinking it, he would've been strong enough to have a wall of fire around him the entire time to stop the inferi....

But then why did Dumbeldore drink it? I think it's unlikely you don't have to drink the potion. So he needed someone else to go with him and help him.

But it could've been. The simpilest things are quite often over-looked. For instance, during the Tournament, Harry could've just accio-ed the egg, but he didn't think to. DD could possibly have just dumped it, but didn't think to....

Seeing as You couldn't summon water to drink or touch the potion with your bare hands it seems likely not definetly but likely that the potion would have just dissapeared and reapered in the basin.

The only solution I can think of is that it simply would've worked - that the dragon would notice one of her eggs is floating to Harry.

There's no way it would really be so easy, I agree with King of the Istari. Even if Rowling haven't thought about it when she wrote the book - which is possible definitely, I found a lot of contradictions or illogical occurrences in her books - she won't admit and probably say something similar to what KotI (if you don't mind me calling you so, King of the Istari is sort of long) said.

I think if Harry had just summoned the egg the dragon would have attacked him. So Harry's plan was the best because after he had the egg he could fly away. I guess once he had his broom he could have summoned it...

But as soon as Harry had the egg, the task would've been complete and the dragon 'tamers' would have taken over. So even if it attacked him, they would've prevented him being injured.

What I meant is that the dragon wouldn't let the egg get to Harry, as he'd see the egg floating to Harry. I don't know really how a dragon could stop an accio spell, but I don't really know what kind of magical powers dragons have.

Alright, but I still think there is some other way to get the potion out of the basin. lol. But, out of curiousity: is there someone that is likely to have been with RAB? Or... *Dramatic music* (Lol) maybe he took a cat with him. Lol.
