I love the Phillip Marlowe character! The Big Sleep and Farewell My Lovely are two of my favorites!

Have you seen the 1946 Bogart film of The Big Sleep? Seeing it was what got me into Raymond Chandler... in terms of the gritty detective stories that started the whole private eye stereotype, I actually prefer him to Hammett.

Yes Parrot, I have that one on tape! I also have the Robert Michum version on tape, and Robert Michum's Farewell My Lovely on tape as well. They lose something in transition to the screen, but are good nonetheless. Of course you have the Mike Hammer series...
