Re: Tartan

I assume my clan has a tartan, although I don't even know which clan it is. they have nothing to do with us people who live in England, and are only a little scottish.

We lost the christmas thing over quite a while, G. Not sure how, really. It's a shame.

I'm not allowed to forget the scottish traditions. My cousins (a different branch of scottish folks - there are two lots. These ones speak to us) would be up in arms about that.

Tartan

Thanks, X Rogue! I'm glad you like my tartan! Tartans.scotland.net will let you look up the family tartan if you now the name. That's where I got mine. They also have family history and such. I betcha didn't know that the McEwan family is 600 years old!

Re: Here you go, X Rogue!

No, that one is a bit different. My branch has no yellow stripe, so it's a variation of the one you found. It could be worse, my mother is Clan Stuart and you should see the number of variations they have. I'll have a look about today and this evening and see if I can find and post a pic of our tartan. I'll have to get help from hubby on it tho, so it may take awhile. And as to Scottish traditions, those are easy, even haggis. The Cajun part of my family expects me to eat things most people regard as bait! Tho crawfish is actually quite good.

Re: Here you go, X Rogue!

Okay, I'll try to put a link up-this one is a bit different, but to the best of my recollection this is the one I was shown.

*edit*

Eeeep, do you know that site has 71 variations on the Stewart tartan? Good grief!

*end edit*

Re: Here you go, X Rogue!

The MacDonald clan also has a million different variations. I didn`t see ours there but I only looked briefly. I`ll check again. Can`t say that I`ve ever tried Crawfish. Have you ever eaten froglegs? I hear they`re a delicacy in some areas. Can`t say I`ve tried those, either.

Re: Here you go, X Rogue!

Thanks. No, I can't recall ever eating frog legs, but I am fond of crawfish. And I tried rattlesnake once, roasted over a stick on a fire. It was ok. And fried alligator is pretty good, too, come to think of it.

Alligator...

Hey, I've tried that before, and it wasn't half bad! Tasted sort of like....chicken! But the crawfish, blah! I thought I'd try it ONCE, and when they brought out the platter, they still had their little heads on with their little beady eyes....yuck, I just can't pop heads off and suck them clean!! Didn't touch the nasty things.....

Sig. quote.

Btw, intriguing quote there, Spock. I`ve been meaning to ask you who Sakini is? I don`t know that name. The only name I know of that`s close to that is the goddess Shakini. I don`t think that`s who you`re referring to, though! Just curious. We elves have an insatiable curiosity!

Re: A HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!

The quote is from "Tea House of The August Moon" one of my all time favorite movies. Marlon Brando plays the role and narates the line.

Re: A HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!

I`ve heard that it`s a very good movie but have never viewed it. I`ll have to check it out one of these days. Thanks for the info on the quote. Again, an intriguing quote.

Re: Sig. quote.

Wow, that's so neat. I'm over half Scot too, I'm a Graham. My ancestors were the Marquis of Montrose, living in Mugdock Castle. Only the observatory tower of the castle still stands, the Campbells burned it down...
St. Patrick was a Scot missionary....

Re: Sig. quote.

Yes, I know the story. My younger sister wrote a report on him into our Medieval Chronicler, a newsletter we used to make. It's historical, going through the medieval ages. We scan in some pictures for it and draw others, then write reports and articles on the main characters for the particular chronicler we're doing. After we're finished with it, we print it out, laminate it and show it to our friends and company!

But we've stopped now. No time.
