Can admins read PMs I send to another mooter?

That's all this thread is. A simple question. It's a pretty simple forum I guess.

But I'll have to snicker here too though, because I just realised how you spell "PMs."

I have ALWAYS wanted to know this very question too. So, what is it, whoever out there who might know?

Bombadillo - Your new avvie is very strange, , what is that? A skeleton with a Devo hat on? No, I'm just playin'!

No. Admins can not read your PMs. The only one who could I would think, would be Ben, since he owns the board and the Vbulletin software, and would have access to the database.

Every Mooter here wants to know the answer to that question!

They always say they can't read them .... hmmm ....

(Never thought about Ben being able to read them, tho! )

From my expperiences on the internet, I always assume that messageboard messaging systems can be read by more than the addressor and the addressee. The same with email, and any telephone that transmits signal over the radio spectrum.

Well, frankly, me too. That's why I always urge whomever I might be PMing something sensitive to, to immediately delete the message as soon as they have read it. Trust No One. (Fox Mulder, anyone remember him? )

Am I detecting paranoia?

Would I lie to you?

I'm crushed you people would think such things.

well, JD's take on this was it was possible but only Ben perhaps could .. and to be fair he did'nt think Ben would ... nor would he on his site ... i guess we have to trust this ... i for one do!

I have no reason to doubt this and respect Ben for allowing ALL our privacy on here.

so, yes it is technically possible, but i for one trust absolutely that they ARE private.

best all BB

P.S of course it would be a VERY legit breach of LAW if it were ever proved otherwise .... but as i said i HAVE NO DOUBT all is well in this regard.

so... best to you ALL BB

I don't know what a Devo hat is. It's a dead LEGO man wearing a bandana!

the answer is no. The only way we could is if we change your password and log into your account and read your PMs that way - which we could do but obviously wouldn't.

There is a feature that displays all of the recent PM messages in the admin control pannel, but that has long been turned off.

Not even ben could read your pms without jacking your account. :P

The database is encyrpted I believe. Like we don't have access to your passwords (but we do have the power to change them).

So the answer is if we reaaaaallllly wanted to, we could - but we won't.

Devo hat - what the music group wore.

Don't believe SGH. We can -all- read your PMs.

And Hector, my dear fellow, you might want to tone some of those down. This IS a family board, after all. *arched eyebrow*

Actually Hector, Tessar is lying.

Tessar, I neglected to say that the only other PMs I can read besides my own are yours, and boy are they goofy. Poor child.

Can the rest of you mods and admins see other 'mooters, sitting at their computers, while they're on the board? Or is it only me?
