Re: Happy Meal Frodo-hobbit with Glow-in-the-Dark Sting?

I didn't even know LOTR when I was 10... I first read it at 15...
But we did Lots of RobinHood sets... with only some knights and a green dude.

Wow, cool... I never heard of the LoTR unntill I was like 15 or something either, so I've never played LoTRlego... I want special kits though, even if we can be creative and make out of the ones that exist....

i think that some of lotr merchandise would be fun.... i wish i could get my hands on shirts that were made back in the 70's.. this girl i know has a blue shirt and it has Gandalf on it, and at the bottom in tiny letters it says, "Gandalf". so vintage, but that's the kinda stuff i would like. and sorry if i am always behind on these posts, but alas i just started posting here, so please forgive me.

no problem, hiku . we're delighted to hear your opinions.

Besides, I happen to agree with you in this. i'd like to see that sort of stuff: t-shirts and so, but NOT dolls or action figures

Burger King does *not* have better food. I have been to Burger King twice in the last year and both times (both at different locations) I have gotten hair in my burger.

Anyhow, I actually had a bad dream about a Lord of the Rings "Onion Rings" tie in a week before the news broke. It was scary seeing that same "Lord of the Onion Rings" as a headline.

*shudders*

that was the title of an incredibly unfunny thing I heard on the radio once. I switched off after a couple of minutes. even my father's leonard cohen tape was preferable.

just to go off on a complete tangent...

That is, on reflection, not a happy sentence.

That Burger King thing is true. I read about it in the papers about 2 weeks ago and it was headlined "Lord of the Onion Rings" and all those non-LoTR readers were laughing.

That darn Balrog W/WO wings

Tolkien himself refered to the creature having wings. Yes, he did. When he first describes the creature, he refers to them as a shadow or darkness like wings. Then on the next page he flat out refers to them as wings. Not "like" wings, his wings. Reread that part of the book.

No idea but I wont be stepping one fooot inside Burger King after it begins. I mean some little kid on TV zooming Frodo across the table or having him chop at a Nazgul is going to make me sick:b. I dont think Balrogs had wings, the way Howe paints his Balrogs is totally amazing(cant say that for the Hobbits.*winces*)but the wings looks like a skimpy bats or something like that and what would be the use of wings if you could'nt use em so why have them if you cant? Just my view of things. Sam

I think lotr action figuers are inevitable, but if they have barbie anything that even slightly resembles a lotr character, barbie is going down!!! Such an abomination is unfathomable! Tolkin would be rolling over in his grave!

This is just sad, and cheapening. We're in for battle-mode Legolases, shooting plastic arrows at little green goblins, and hack&slash Gimlis with kung-fu Khazad whacks. Oh well.

how many little kids ever even heard of tolkien

(im 12 btw and i would probally geta kids meal just for the toys, i've done it b4 )

I'm going to buy every single Kid's Meal it takes for me to have EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM TOYS!!!!!!!!!!!! Making the movies cheapen it. Making the cartoons cheapens it. Heck, illustrating the movie cheapens it. Everything cheapens it! If you want to be negative. I don't. I like the illustrations of Middle-Earth. I like the idea of the movies being made. I hate the cartoons. I will buy the Kid's Meals, the action figures, and any merchandise that looks cool. Besides, this merger isn't simply to cash in, its to help keep New Line from going broke before the movies get released. Somebody's got to pay for this expensive set of films. Tesseract12, I like you name. Someone's Madeline L'Engle is showing. Is that how you spell you name? It's been awhile since I read her books. I read most of the Wrinkle in Time books.

Pace yourselves, remember this is going to get a lot worse before it gets better so save some jokes for later.

P.S. I wouldn't worry over Barbi after all Ken is much to tall to pass for a hobbit.
