Favourite Quote.

We've got some of these in the other forums so I thought we should have one here.

What's your favourite line from the movie. Where is it and who said it. Why do you like it.

I have two. My first is Aragorn's line(s) at the Black Gate.
'Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers, I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come, when the courage of men fails. When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields as the age of men comes crashing down. But it is not this day this day we fight. By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!'

And my second is Sam's at Osgiliath afte he saved Frodo, but that's even longer than the Aragorn one so I won't write it down.

What are yours?

I like the quotes by Theoden at the charge of the Rohirrim. "Sheild splintered, spears shaken" that one!

My fave LotR quotes are in my sig, but they're in the book, and they're not what you asked for... my favorite quote in the movie is:

Quote:
Sam:
I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end, because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it'll shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you, that meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand, I know now.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turnin' back, only they didn't. They kept goin', because they were holdin' on to somethin'.

Frodo:
What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam:
That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo, and it's worth fightin' for.

"'I would,' said Faramir. And he took her in his arms and kissed her under the sunlit sky, and he cared not that they stood high upon the walls in the sight of many. And many indeed saw them and the light that shone about them as they came down from the walls and went hand in hand to the Houses of Healing."

Strider

well mine is aragorn's line at the end of FOTR

GIMLI: Then it has all been in vain, the fellowship has failed.
ARAGORN: Not if we hold true to each other we will not leave merry and pippin to torment and death, we travel light, Lets Go Hunt Some Orc!

but I also Like Aragorns speech before the black gate a lot

and theoden's speech

And pretty much every line sam has in the trilogy especially his line about the great stories

"...Rosie Cotton dancin'. She had ribbons in 'er hair..." Yep- this one tops 'em all, I think (if we're talking strictly movie-lines)

I've been chasing grace; Grace ain't so easily found

I've got to get out of here, just give me One Good Year!

My top 5 Favs are:

1.)"Where Is the horse and the rider,
where is the horn that was blowing,
they have passed like rain on the mountains,
like wind in the meadows,
the days have gone down in the west,
behind the hills.....into shadow...
-Theoden at Helms Deep

2.)Sam's "I can carry you!" speech to frodo on the slopes of Mt. Doom.

3.)This one is probably the most moving for me:
Pippin "I didn't think it would end this way"

Gandalf "End? No the journey doesn't end here.
Death is just another path, one that we all must take.
The grey rain curtain of this world rolls back,
and all turns to silver glass...and then you see it..."

Pippin- "What Gandalf? See what"

Gandalf- "White shores...and beyond,
a far green country, under a swift sunrise."

Pippin- "Well, that doesn't sound so bad."

Gandalf- "No, no it isn't"

4.) The awesome speech made by sam at the end of TTT.

5.)Boromir- "My father is a noble man.
But his rule is failing,
And... our...our people lose faith.
He looks to me to make things right and I...I would do it...I would see the glory of Gondor restored...
Have you ever seen it Aragorn? The white tower of Ecthelion,
glimering like a spike of pearl and silver,
it's banners caught high in a morning breeze,
Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets."

Aragorn-"I have seen the white city...long ago."

Boromir-"One day our paths will lead us there,
and the tower guard shall take up the call,
that the lords of Gondor have returned."

There are sooo many but these are just a few.

Yeah I always feel like im on the verge of tears when he says that line. The music, the acting, and the lighting are perfect in that scene. I love how PJ is able to capture poetry in motion. Beautiful.

3 and 5. AWESOME stuff. I really love the way Boromir loves his City, his country, and his people. I don't know if he's really like that in the books, but Faramir is, and it's just a layer on an onion in the brothers.
That exchange with Gandalf and Pippin is just awesome. Really and truely awesome. The imagery is just so great, and you KNOW Gandalf's been there, and you can see it in his eyes. Great acting, on oth parts. Pippin's despair, and then hope, is beautiful. I like right after that when the music fades and the banging on the gate can be heard again, and Pippin looks at Gandalf, and Gandalf looks at Pippin, and a little flicker of hope and peace remains... it's really great stuff.

Ah, yes, number 3 seems to be a favorite. Tis one of mine too. There are, of course, others:

1.) Pippin: Maybe Treebeard's right; this world's too big for us. What good could we do in the end? Besides, we've go the Shire. Maybe we should go home.

Merry: The fires of Isengard will spread, and the woods of Tuckboruogh and Buckland will burn, and all that was once good and green in this world will be gone. There won't be a Shire Pippin.
(I think that's how it goes.)

2.) Merry: He doesn't look too happy does he?

Pippin: No indeed Merry, not very happy at all.

Merry: But I suppose the view would be quite nice from up there.

Pippin: Oh yes; it's a quality astablishment. And I here the staff are quite good...

3.) Screaming 'Death!' at Pelennor Fields.

4.) As you might have guessed, anything Merry said.

5.) Aragorn: 'Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers, I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me.

I just love that speech.

There are others... but I will not put them here.

Oh, your 3. I love their despair, and how it doesn't melt their resolve, but strengthens it. And they all go out go meet their fate, glorying in it like true knights.

A cut that won't make RotK EE but when Pippin and Gandalf leave Edoras there is an alternative leaving where Merry says to Pippin,
"We will see the Shire again!" in a really emotional voice with tears in his eyes.

You mean from:
"Pippin: We'll see each other again, won't we?
Merry: I don't know Pippin; I don't know what's going to happen."? I wish they had left that in!

Another favorite would have to be:
Legolas: Lembas! Elvish waybread; one small bite of this is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man!
(Legolas leaves)
Merry: How many did you eat?
Pippin: Four.

No that will stay but there is an alternative ending which won't make it that I think was better.
