My fave part of the Hobbit has to be when the Elves first come to Hobbiton and Bilbo a respected and calm citezen starts getting all flustered. I also like the way the first chapter of the hobbit is called Ann unexpected Party and the first chapter of the lord of the rings is the Long expected party.

You mean dwarves...don'tcha!? I like the unexpected party best also. Bilbo is hilarious....there's good food, drink, music, smoke rings, and a magical wizard, what's not to like!

What about Riddles in the Dark? And when Bilbo fights the spiders? Those are probably my favorite parts, especially the riddles. What has it gots in its pocketses? Classic

The Eagles are coming! The Eagles are coming!
- cause they rock! It is exactly this part that made me love them.

i always liked the part where gandalf cunningly shuffles the party of dwarves into Beorn's home... some funny stuff as he slowly changes his tale to account for the dwarves coming in a few at a time

Quote:
"Nori at your service, Ori at . . ." they began; but Beorn interrupted them.

"Thank you! When I want your help I will ask for it. Sit down, and let's get on with this tale, or it will be supper-time before it is ended."

"As soon as we were asleep," went on Gandalf, "a crack at the back of the cave opened; goblins came out and grabbed the hobbit and the dwarves and our troop of ponies-"

"Troop of ponies? What were you-a travelling circus? Or were you carrying lots of goods? Or do you always call six a troop?"

"O no! As a matter of fact there were more than six ponies, for there were more than six of us - and well, here are two more!" Just at that moment Balin and Dwalin appeared and bowed so low that their beards swept the stone floor. The big man was frowning at first, but they did their very best to be frightfully polite, and kept on nodding and bending and bowing and waving their hoods before their knees (in proper dwarf-fashion), till he stopped frowning and burst into a chuckling laugh; they looked so comical.

"Troop, was right," he said. "A fine comic one. Come in my merry men, and what are your names? I don't want your service just now, only your names; and then sit down and stop wagging!"

Oh, yeah...I love that part. And Beorn takes it all in stride, although he could have gotten very angry.

Yes Precioussss, loved it. All those nice riddles in that nasty cave.

And Battle of the Five Armies - that's still the best war ever!

ok splitting threads here: but not on purpose! (honestly! -this esp to you lovely SGH! )

hi ItalianLegolas: (going back to a past question i had no chance to reply to (no gripe here- honest): lambrettas are like kinda stylish(?) mopeds driven around by MODS ( those who popped pills, rode lambrettas, wore parkers and liked two-tone music ala 'the specials' etc - mod music in the past in UK) see the film 'Quadraphenia'

back to topic (aren't i good? - well sometimes anyway ... 'my precious?'- ?)

in the Hobbit : 'unexpected party' has charm for sure. Rather liked the initial meeting with Beorn when the dwarves in two by two's start popping up etc

You should really read it man. Its not as good as LotR (in my oppinion) but its still a very good book. There's a gap in your education if you haven't read it.

I think my favorite part in the Hobbit has to be the events with the Trolls. Arguing how to deal with the Hobbit. Turning to stone and getting robbed by the "robber"! Good Stuff.
