The Hobbit opener
My son is doing a report for school on the Hobbit. Help we have a book missing the first 15 pages and one of the questions is " What is the opening line of the book" please help

In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit, not a nasty dirty wet hole filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor a bare dry one, with nowhere to sit on. It was a hobbit hole and that means confort. It had a perfectly round door like a portal...

probably the best. I mean how perfect is it. I have it memorized.I mean it just about sums up the book too. It sets the whole mood for the book. I mean whoa...

i think there is a website that i visited recently that had the first chapter downloadable on pdf. i forget where i found the link... possibly theonering.net hmm... maybe ill look around for it

That the opening line was scibbled on a test J.R.R. Tolken was gradeing (Tolken scribbled it, so no one else is to blame
