Hi

I'm new here. This year I take my maturity exam and I've chosen the topic about fantasy.I's all about presenting how different worlds ar created in particular fantasy books. I thought Lord of the Rings would be a perfect example

If U have any ideas how to put it or any materials available I would soooooo grateful

What is a maturity exam? Is it a test you take or do you have to make a presentation speech? I think Tolkien's works stand for themselves, but there are some books that have been written about them. I can't remember them off the top of my head, though.

There's also "The Laws and Customs of the Eldar" and "The Silmarillion". These two texts would help illustrate the rich culture and lauguages Tolkien created.

This is a great topic for creating fantasy worlds, since Tolkien did it in great detail!

Maybe you could also find a way to work Tolkien's wonderful poetry into it.

. They're really helpful.the maturity exam is a speech but we can put some films, slide presentations or music into it . I'm thinking of the way to make it as interesting for the jury as possible, because for me that's a great topic!

reading the hobbit, lotr and the silmarillion are a great start... hopefully you've already done that

but for the how, the history of middle earth books would be great... the tough part is that there is so much info... you might want to limit yourself to one or two stories by tolkien

one idea would be to choose the silmarillion and read lost tales one and two... comparing tolkien's early ideas about the first age to his later ones are very interesting, and illustrate how the story was revised numerous times to take into account changes in themes as well as making the tale more appealing to readers

that's just one example, btw... if you would rather focus on the hobbit or lotr i can suggest the HoME books that address certain parts of those stories

yes, there are three volumes of the HoME, they deal witht he LotR directly...hm..one was...something like the shadow rising, than the end of the third age, blast, it's been a while, but those three are great, and show his early drafts and old names...

Haven't seen anyone on the Moot who lives this close to me. Please stay around! Or at least tell how the exam preparations are going

(And maturity exam... The exam we here have to take at the end of high school is "maturity exam", literally translated. Maybe it's similar in Poland too. Though obviously better if they can choose a topic... we were told what we had to learn. I would've really enjoyed if I had been allowed to prepare from Tolkien. Really.)

So is it like a Senior Paper(What we americans do our last year of high school). I wish i could have picked my topic.
