LOTR Online

If there is a separate thread for this, I beg your forgiveness. I was wondering if any of you play the new LOTR Online game and if you did, what were your impressions? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Not a major transgression, but this belongs in our "Entertainment" forum.

Move made.

Otherwise, welcome to Entmoot, Jedessirah!

I have not yet played...but it looks quite good. I'd love to get into it, but the monthly fees put me off.

I've been playing it on and off for the last few weeks. It's very nice looking and very fun! They did a real good job of mixing lore in with the inevitable changes you have to make to make it a playable game for lots of people. Pretty cool community as well.

Highly recommended!

With kids and jamming, I'm not on much except latenight, but if you end up giving it a shot, I have a Minstrel by the name of Tachyon on the Gladden server.

Here's a screenshot of a "pipeweed party" we had.

Lord of the Rings Online: SHadows of Angmar

Is anyone playing LotRO? I played some during the buggy open beta but haven't since. What do you think of it?

First of all, welcome to our forums. Unfortunately, I don't have the game, so I can't help you very much. There has however, already been a thread about this.

I hope this helps, and once again, welcome.

I've been playing for a couple of years now, not much except in the summers though. There's some stuff in it that's definitely not Tolkien but I think overall it does a really nice job of allowing one to experience Middle Earth through the computer game medium. I love just hanging out in Hobbiton or Rivendell. As a game it's pretty decent too.

I've never played it, but it looks cool! The idea of paying monthly fees has always been a turn-off for me, but I just read here that in the fall, LOTR Online is going to change to being free-to-play, meaning no monthly fees. Maybe then I'll give it a try.

If I were going to devote a lot of time to an MMO, I would have a hard time choosing between LOTR Online and the new Star Wars MMO that's in production, The New Republic. I'll definitely give LOTR Online a go in the fall, though.

I've been looking into LoTR Online but I don't understand how it works. First, is it only for PC's? I tried to download the demo onto my mac and it turned up as just a bunch of letters and numbers. Second, do you have to buy the game in disk format or is it purely online? On amazon they have something like it.....

Lord of the Rings online is pc only, I'm sad to say. Also, the game can be downloaded over the net, or downloaded from a disc. A place to buy it in pure digital form, for instance, is the site Direct2Drive. Hope that helps.

D. Sullivan already mentioned it, but LOTRO is now free-to-play. I started playing last month, and I have to say it is already my favorite game ever, surpassing even Zelda in almost every way. Thenichir is the name of my character, if you want to know, and I play on the Elendilmir server. You won't regret downloading the game. Just check out images of the game on Flickr or Photobucket. It's unbelievable, and the gameplay is just as awesome. I am loving hanging around Bree and the Prancing Pony at the moment.

I have played it a bit as well, and I gotta say I've enjoyed it. The people there are, on average, more mature than your typical WoW people so that makes it a much more enjoyable experience too.
