I'm trying to transnate this joke I posted in the joke thread into Swedish:

Ingvar Kamprad, owner and founder of IKEA, is apparently the wealthiest person in the world. He will now use this money to buy some decent furniture.

Here's what I have:

Ingvar Kamprad, ägare och gjutare av IKEA, är tydligen personen mest förmögen i världen. Nu, han vill köpa några anständig möbler.

Originally, I had the second sentence as:

Han vill köpa några anständig möbler med hans pengar.

but I think it's funnier this way.
Since I have nothing else to do, here is how it would have been in Norwegian

Ingvar Kamprad, eier og gründer av IKEA, er tydeligvis den rikeste personen i verden. Nå skal han kjøpe noen annstendige møbler.

There really are a lot of similarities between Swedish and Norwegian.

The Norwegian "ø" seems to equal the Swedish "ö", is that right? I recognized some of the words in your translation too.

Yes, the norwegian ø are the same as ö. also the norwegian letter å is the same as ä.
It's really similar. If you speak, or write one of them, it's easy to recognize the other.

A quick note - since IKEA is a foundation, the money isn't really his
Compare the Swedish sentence to what Pytt wrote and see how similar they are.

You mean æ is the same as ä
- å is the same letter in both languages.

I have really horrible grammar, no matter what language it is. And I say weird things. It's true that I can't sleep, though...and I have a chinese quiz tommorow.

Yes, off course. I didn't remember. So ø is the same as ö, æ is the same as ä and å is the same in both.

I'll remember that if I ever have to try to read some Norwegian. Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish are all so alike, and yet... so not... aaa!

Your Swedish is fully comprehensible, just a few things to correct. "Gjutare" is a person who founds metals, the word you were looking for is "grundare" (founder) . Then we often have a reversed word order, with the verb before the noun. This can be hard to get right sometimes

Ah yes. I see now. Sometimes it's hard looking things up in a dictionary.

I think I get all my mistakes, except, why "den" instead of "personen"?

I recently learned the rule about adjectives - if the noun if "ett", add a "t", if it's "en", leave it alone, and if it's plural, add an "a".

"Den" is a demonstrative pronoun, that is a pronoun that points out an intended referent. It's THAT person (DEN personen) and not just A person (EN person). Do you follow?

Hi Chrys! It would be easier if I knew in which context you're going to say that, but I hope this will be ok:
Pent galleri, er det greit at jeg ser på?

Ok, I saw the drawings of you, they were really great.

Can you do me a favour back and tell me what "slainte mhath", "slan leath" and "Sraid Mabbot" means? I think it is gaelic, but I'm not sure ...

Thanks, but there's no need to stress yourself, it's not that important.
Marillion has a song called "Slainte mhath", and the other two are phrases from Ulysses by James Joyce.
