Hats off to the hometown Chicago Bears! Even those of us in THIS city thought we just had a bad team with a good record (result of recent match-ups with other bad teams) - but today... WOW! Just clobbering the Panthers like they did was really something!

I would NOT have picked the Bears to be 7-3 at this point... no WAY! Until a few weeks ago, I kept up my snickering about how funny it would be to see if the Bears could win their division at 7-9 or 6-10, and go into the playoffs with a record like that. But now...

Pardon me though... we're all just a little confused here in this city. Someone pinch me.

Well, I can usually be enticed into that.

What the hex was up with my Seahawks offensive line? Hutchinson is good, yes, but even the right side of the line (which is the same from last year) was blowing it. Good thing we pulled out 9-6, but this was DETROIT. Yeesh.

Prediction: Carolina over Indianapolis in the Super Bowl (assuming Steve Smith can ever play again for Carolina...)

I dont think youll need to worry about being lynched. New England has been selling off their parts for a couple years now. I think its finally catching up to them.

I'm excited about tomorrow night's Bears-Seahawks game. Too bad Shawn Alexander likely won't play. If the Bears win and he didn't play - you feel like the Bears didn't really get tested. Meanwhile, if Seattle wins WITHOUT him... more to worry about in Bear Territory! Right now both teams are 3-0 though... but we don't really know how good the Bears are, because all three games were against NFC North opponents - who appear to be weak this year.

- - - - - - -

Meanwhile - I'm sorta pulling for Dick Jauron - the new coach of the Buffalo Bills. He was the Bears coach just a few years ago. I really liked him, and felt like Bears management didn't treat him right.

I'm excited for the game, but it just happens to be the night of Yom Kippur, meaning I'll be in synagogue during it. I do hope the 'hawks win though... Shaun or no Shaun.

Now looking forward to tonight's Monday Night Football Game! What with the kids, I rarely get to do this - but I'm going over to someone else's house for it. We'll probably leave at halftime though... (I'm bringing my oldest, who's 8).

If it goes like most of the last few, it'll be about OVER at Halftime! I can only hope!

Say - most of you probably know that the football Cardinals were in St Louis before they were in Phoenix. But didja know... they were originally in Chicago?

Really? I remember the St. Louis days, but didn't know they hailed from Chicago before that!

Yes - in fact they were there longer than anyplace else - from 1920 to 1959. (I just checked after I posted that last night) They started out while the Bears were still the "Decatur Staleys" (that's a whole 'nuther story! ).

The game... Whooo-boy! Not like expected at all. It DID appear to be over at halftime, but not the way I wanted. As to the finish... I have this vague feeling I owe a deep apology to anyone and everyone from Phoenix!

Yeah they sure lucked out. Two defensive touchdowns and a punt return in the last quarter to win it? Thats what happens when you play a poor team like the Cardinals. You are always in it. Chicago is having a strong year this year but Im growing a little annoyed with the comparisons to the 85 Bears though. I mean get real. And as good as Rex Grossman has been this year he's STILL Rex Grossman...

The Bears eased a lot of concerns THIS weekend. We still have to see them consistently play big on the road though. Their only "easy" road win so far was at Green Bay. Coming up - we have the Dolphins this Sunday at home - but then a really tough road stretch: Giants, Jets and Patriots - all away, on three successive weeks (you'd think they should just move out there for the two weeks in between). That trip will tell a lot. Soon after - another Monday night game on the road - at St Louis. If they're still unbeaten (or even only one loss) by that point, THEN maybe we can start comparing with '85. They sure are eating teams up on the field though - when they're "on".

The AFC seems to have a lot of tough teams: Colts, Patriots, Broncos, Chargers. I don't know much about the Jaguars.

Interesting year. And a (rare) fun year... for us in Chicago.

I think the Patriots could very well end the winning streaks for BOTH the Bears and the Colts. They look so solid. Brady is just such an impressive quarterback. It seems no matter who he has to throw to he makes it work. And they have a solid defense as well. But watch out for the Giants at home too. They are a tough squad and improving every week.

Dual-meaning when I started the thread - neither of which was to be "beefcakes" (so no looking at those tight ends!)

First of all - they ARE big, beefy guys. Secondly - I really had some "beefs" with how things were being run with the Chicago team.

Chicago has made a rather remarkable turn-around these three years though, haven't they?
