While we are waiting for Elfgirl to post a question, I will endeavor to take a shot at this one.

I believe Elrond is alluding to the sons of Fëanor when he and Gimli are having the following conversation:

Quote:
`The further you go, the less easy will it be to withdraw; yet no oath or bond is laid on you to go further than you will. For you do not yet know the strength of your hearts, and you cannot foresee what each may meet upon the road.' [said Elrond]
`Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens,' said Gimli.
'Maybe,' said Elrond, `but let him not vow to walk in the dark, who has not seen the nightfall.'
'Yet sworn word may strengthen quaking heart,' said Gimli.
`Or break it,' said Elrond.

yes, it all becomes clear now. it was one of those evil abstract-type allusions
can't believe i didn't see the connection myself - that's one of my favourite conversation things in lotr...
well, you learn something new every day

elendili - cat's are great. reincarnation as a cat is fine, but a death wish if you're curious by nature

Okay... an easy one since it's not my turn:

Whose presence reveals Bilbo's secret to Merry?

Well, I guess GW is technically right as the S-Bs are refered to in the plural.
