Thank you for another useful update. Giuliani isn't even mentioned in the news here anymore by the way.

I think he handled that quite nicely. He remained polite, knew when to break off the argument and he actually made his point. Not something everyone manages to do.
(sorry, I know I'm not Hector, I was just impressed )

That was true, tried, decent Romney at his best. One of those moments you know he's more than just a Ken Doll.

Meh, the guy was a reporter, they're always buggy like that. Mitt made it clear withuot going unhinged like Bill Clinton might (see examples on youtube).

The last time I watched something like this was when Mitt was doing an interview with a Des Moines radio talk show host. They kept the camera rolling off air, but Mitt didn't know it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-G9hy...eature=related

I just heard the author of this book interviewed. However lowdown the recent campaigns have been, there are some examples in the past that match up.

"If you vote for Richard Nixon, you might go to hell"

Well, there's doubtless a PM there, but I just hardly log in to the Moot, so the PMs stack up, but I'll tell you right now just so you won't have to waste your PMspace/time canvassing me: I have no interest whatsoever and even less actual time for pretend messageboard "elections!" Look how often I even have time to log in here at the Moot? Like, once a month, if that? Sorry, babe, but I've got zero interest in Entmoot popularity games and elections and stuff like that; I used to be so into that stuff here but that was like two years ago.

Real life elections, that's what holds my interest. I'll find the time to vote for and stand up for Hillary Rodham Clinton, but my RL allows me almost no room for messageboard time-devouring politics and popularity contests... Fear not, Mr. Berlioz!! There's lots and lots of people here who DO have the time & interest, you'll be fine...

Okay, I know you guys are sick of my lousy campaign sizing-up, but here's a little more...

A few things are inevitable:
  • Edwards is out after South Carolina
  • Thompson is out after South Carolina*
*maybe hangs on till he can win TN...maybe

So,

Prediction #1: Edwards will endorse Obama, o)because of bitterness between him and Hillary o) his supporters are a substantial, candidate-faithful group, who are probably inclined towards Obama anyways.

Prediction #1.2 (aka covering all bases so I can't possible be wrong)
Edwards will endorse Hillary, as such a favor is likely to get him a favor....the VP pick kind.

Prediction #2 Thompson will withdraw, but will keep his endorsement to himself, and his supporters will scatter among the candidates.

Prediction #2.2 (same reasons).
Thompson will endorse someone, but his people still scatter. My prediction is that he'll endorse *gulp* McCain, because to do otherwise would be 'attacking' him, as Fred and McCain are longtime friends.

Well, for one thing, I wanted to quote this so you can't rewrite it.

Second. Not sure Edwards will drop out. Someone has to be VP, and Obama and Hillary will NEVER be able to patch it up. He's in a great position to pick up a nod from either of them, and he'll have delegates going into the convention, so why not hold on to them? The wind is still shifting. He has had steady support in every location, not that you can tell that from the media reports, and, don't forget, came in second in Iowa. http://www.johnedwards.com/whereisjohn/mail/ He polls well in many match-ups for the national campaign.

Third. Thompson should quit. He's too little, too late, and that blond on his arm won't help him in the heartland. Go back to Hollywood, Fred. Here's Borowitz.
Quote:
And in Florida, former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson picked up the endorsement of the National Association of Jowly Grouches.

Mr. Thompson promised the Grouches that if elected, he would tell those damn kids to get off their lawn.
Don't know about his endorsement. Don't suppose anyone cares.

If I was the Edwards campaign, this is what I'd be looking at. http://news.yahoo.com/s/thenation/20...ation/45271185
Hard to quit when you think you can win.

One thing though Sis...I can't see Obama wanting Edwards as his VP. Talk about Ticket death. Hillary, I think, is more likely to see it as her duty to pick him as VP than Obama.

This brings up an interesting subject, btw, about Veeps in general. It seems that any of the candidates would be wise to choose an established presence. It's a fairly new concept actually. You look at Clinton and Bush 41, who both chose "youngish" VPs Gore and Quayle.

The theory is, if you're old you need young blood on the ticket.

So....if Obama gets the nomination, he would do well to choose some 'experienced' blood for the ticket. Any suggestions? Obama/Gore?

I think Obama's a weak candidate. Liberman? More experience, and a hawk.

But Edwards is a pretty good balance for Obama. Southern people and older people would trust him more, and he's good with unions. Hard to say what balances a newcomer from the urban midwest.

No no...Lieberman wouldn't sign on with Obama. But he's very likely to switch parties over the war and join McCain on a ticket. I'd almost bet on it.

Right now, we're looking at a McCain or Obama/Hillary presidency.

Hey, I'm not so roiled up in political blathering that I would say I'd move to Canada. The Republicans Learn A Lesson Part II: If You Act Like A Dem, They'll Prefer A Dem.

Too little too late after 2006.

Oh yeah, 90+% of the precincts reporting. I'm calling it for McCain.

But Romney's Nevada win: a dose of good news.

Thompson: Sad...very sad. He hasn't withdrawn yet, but it's almost certain before FL. His endorsement will be important. McCain his friend, or Romney a closer ideological ally? Either way, his support will split, mostly to Romney.

Duncan Hunter withdraws. Endorsement will be looked for. Probably for Romney.

So now we're down to McCain, Huckabee, Romney, Giuliani and Ron Paul.

And more on the McCain nomination:

Ok, I thought this analogy was pretty interesting....

Oliver Stone at his revisionist history again...

Quote:
How did Bush go from an alcoholic bum to the most powerful figure in the world? It's like Frank Capra territory on one hand, but I'll also cover the demons in his private life, his bouts with his dad and his conversion to Christianity, which explains a lot of where he is coming from. It includes his belief that God personally chose him to be president of the United States, and his coming into his own with the stunning, preemptive attack on Iraq. It will contain surprises for Bush supporters and his detractors."
Yeah, why don't you try and see if you can interview the man before you turn him into Mephistopheles, Mr Stone...Link to story

This is Bush movie version???!!!
