I spent trying to figure out how this related to knitting. I kid you not.

I'm not sure I ever saw this spelling used for this idea, before.

I thought you truly believed Global Warming Nurv, more than Al Gore since he jets around spreading co2s in the atmosphere...

You presented your evidence too...

Yes it is. That's why I encourage the alternative: smoking virtual cigars.

Yes, I don't fly very much. I think Al Gore's message, which I believe is a worthwhile one, would be more impactful if he took the train all over the country. Or drove a smart car.

Do you think the evidence is sound, or are there areas that are lacking?

And now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Thomas Sowell wrote three excellent articles on this very topic.

I don't think his articles are particularly good, as he doesn't provide a shred of evidence for any of his claims.

Well they are editorials. I haven't really seen many op-ed pieces that offer a works cited page. But you can go back just 30 years ago and see TIME magazines cover about global freezing.

I wouldn't call them excellent, though. Oh, he's very good at making clever little jabs at the opposite side, which I'm sure makes his column a nice read, but he's very sparing with his so beloved facts, and then again only uses what supports his argument.

True, he doesn't do much except jab...on the other hand, Ellen Goodman compared us to Holocaust Deniers. Op-eds rarely go beyond pricking and jabbing...

That's the only reason I still read some editorials, they usually have very inventive insults and descriptions, which can be quite amusing, but at the same time very low on actual news value. A lot of those columnists are also so damn full of themselves (not specifically referring to the ones whose articles were posted here, I'm including all columnists I have read, Belgian and/or others).

And Ellen Goodman is a journalist, so she's likely to go for catchy phrases. Although I do agree the Holocaust comparison is a bit over the top. Godwin's law, isn't it?

still kinda new at this, think I'm doing it right. Someone mentioned Pluto earlier, I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the debate over whether it is or is not considered a planet.
I have to agree that the US doesn't need any of the 'firsts' but it does need a sane leader. Not some maniac who has enough money to buy time in office, not some bozo who represents a new race, but a LEADER. What a concept.

As for Pluto's changed status, I'd refer you to the Astronomy thread, that's where we last talked about Pluto. It doesn't really fit in this thread.

Gore is going to get an honorary doctorate in climatology ...I guess that means you can quote him on authority now.
