I fondly recall an episode of Late Night with a segment on the Phantom Menace (I think?) premiere. Triumph the insult comic dog was interviewing random people, all dressed up, being lame fanboys, etc. He came up to someone dressed as Darth Vadar and asked if any of those buttons on his chest was a quickdial to call his mom to fetch him.

Star Wars fanboys, Trekkies, same thing.
