Now see, the thing is that the last part I'd seen Ian McKellan in was that of Magneto (who is one of my all-time favorite villains). And I just can't help but see the two actors with their roles reversed.

I don't know about the reversal of characters. I'm sure it would have been excellent, but I can't picture it too well in my mind (which has been completely indoctrinated with Christopher-Lee-plays-bad-guys), whereas Magneto's brand of villainry is different enough from Saruman's that I can't make the switch.

I'm kinda surprised at the amount of people that put Sam down! I thought the character got watered down and that his relationship with Frodo wasn't anywhere near as good as it should have been. Maybe its because Sam was one of my favorite characters in the book, so I'm a bit picky. Okay, who was it that said Arwen did a good job? I'm sorry, but I BEG to disagree. She hardly played a part at all, and the acting wasn't too spiffy, especially compared to some of the other actors in the movie.

fotr-
Gandalf-perfection.
Aragorn-MORE PERFECTION!
Bilbo-the guy IS a hobbit

TTT-
Aragorn-by far
Saruman-fit the part magnificently. Awesome voice
Eowyn-YOU GO GIRL

rotk-
Faramir-beautiful
Aragorn-once again, twas blown away
Pippin-YIPPEE

Over all-
Aragorn-Viggo looked exactly how I pictured him. He played every part of Aragorn, the ranger, the king in waiting, the captain, and da King. His acting was superb, and there was no actor who fit the part better than him.
Gandalf-Well, the guy is a great actor, and like I said about Viggo, he played both Gandalf the Grey and the White, being the same character, but with differences and he was able to advance the character well.
Pippin-At first I was upset cause I felt like he had been demoted to comic relief, but luckily, he played a much better part in rotk. His song when he starts crying still makes me tear up. I love that little guy.

Worse actors-
Denethor-maybe it's just cause I hate the character...
Legolas-sorry girls, he was cool sometimes, but I felt like by the end he was just used as a cool action character and his real personality was gone.
Elrond-am I the only one that thinks Hugo Weaving is a MUCH better bad guy? He looked like he was constipated throughout the whole movie! He was downright mean! Definately the biggest disappointment *shudders* he's a good actor when he's in a suit chasing after Keanu Reeves *chuckles* Mr Anderson.

1. Legolas (especially the part where he's sliding down on the Uruk shield and shooting arrows at everybody)

2. Sauron - the armor is AWESOME!

3. Celeborn - He just looks so cool when he shows no expression.

Boromir was also pretty good now that you mention it. He really made me hate him for treating Frodo as a baby.

Theoden

I think mine are as follows:

The Fellowship of the Ring

Frodo - Elijah Wood
Aragorn - Viggo Mortensen
Arwen - Liv Tyler

I thought Aragorn and Arwen were so cool in the Fellowship of the Ring.

The Two Towers

Eowyn - Miranda Otto
Faramir - David Wenham
Arwen - Liv Tyler

Eowyn was SO cool in the Two Towers and I felt SO sorry for Arwen in that film as well. Elrond was mean showing her that vision!

The Return of the King

Eowyn - Miranda Otto
Sam - Sean Astin
Faramir - David Wenham

I had a hard time choosing out of the characters for the third one but I decided that Sam did do loads to help Frodo and was an amazing friend and deserves a mention.

Overall

Eowyn - Miranda Otto
Gimli - John-Rhys Davies
Faramir - David Wenham
