You guys want to explain that for the non-Americans? Because I'm guessing I'm missing something...

It was created on a political blog as a response to this statement:

Quote:
The GOP might as well run a goat and a paper clip; as long as the goat hates taxes and gay marriage and the paper clip wears a flag lapel pin, they'll get 30 percent of the vote, guaranteed*.
I posted it because the picture amused me, regardless of the veracity or lack thereof of the above statement.

Interesting Aikanaro. I wasn't in the know on that either. Who said it?

I guess what it does at least speak to - is that many voters are issues-oriented rather than personality-oriented in their voting. We can safely say that for people all across the political spectrum. Though maybe the real point is that the GOP has not yet come up with a dominant personality for the 2012 election.

It's totally happening. I tossed it out as an idea to two people, and they were both like, "Oh hellz yes we will play in your folk band!"

So it looks like it's happening. My sister wants to play guitar, my violin instructor is wanting to (of course ) play violin, I play penny whistle (used to play a bit, but not for a long time so I'm having to 'relearn'), and I'm trying to get my BFF to do piano (or maybe just sing, or do rhythm or something).

Right now I'm trying to arrange two songs (Foggy Dew, and O Danny Boy) and we'll try to have a rehearsal some time soon to see how we all mesh and play together.

I. Am. So. Freakin'. Stoked!!!! I want this to work out.
That is so fantastic!!! I wish I could play harp for you, but I've hardly been able to touch it since the Evil Shoulder Surgery From Hell But I have a lot of songs to recommend ... like my favorite, "She Moved Through the Fair"

a version with nice pennywhistle but it cuts off the top note

Here's another version with Loreena McKennitt (but she's not playing the harp right - she's playing it like a guitar)

It was Melissa McEwan - she runs the Shakesville blog and writes articles for various places.

Her point was pretty much the one you made - without a clear and strong opposing candidate, the election becomes a referendum on Obama's first term, with people voting for or against him, regardless of who the alternative is. A similar thing happened in the UK's last election, with people voting against Gordon Brown rather than for Clegg or Cameron.

Time? Oh, that is just fantastic! I think I like it even better now.

As for the quotes? One is from The Waste Land by TS Eliot, and the other is said by Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory. I'm rather fond of both.

Thanks! Are the references in order, or just the other way around? They sound like vice versa.

LOL, strange as some of Eliot's poetry might be, I don't think he ever wrote about ostriches. That one was Sheldon, in the fourth-season episode where his WoW account gets hacked.

Speaking of signatures, by the way - Emilie Autumn is awesome.

Throwing together a kitchen is exhausting. One more round of foodings, then to Trader Joe's for winings, then to Target for one more round of kitchenware. All of this will probably happen tomorrow. Maybe I'll do the foodings tonight.
