"Maybe he's decided to quit smoking?" His friend replied. "He was always carrying on about how it's bad for you and such nonsense. A Hobbit needs his pipe-weed, you know!"

"You may be right for once, Pip. When this is over, we're gonna hafta MAKE him smoke. Not smoking can't be good for you!"

Finally, thought Faramir, Merry and Pippin will outline Boromir's innocence in this crime. He didn't know the Hobbits very well, (he did have lunch with them in a pub though), but they seemed honest and straightforward. They had not borne the Ring like Frodo, so he didn't expect any strange changes in their personalities.
