I had to laugh last night when I read an article where a guy who's supposedly a big-name web blogger was talking about how the internet has destroyed his ability to focus for long periods of time. Something about how it's so easy to google up questions that now we get bored easily from focusing on the same thing.

Apparently he used to be able to just read for hours and now he gets bored after three pages and finds himself fidgeting. Then a bunch of other people were agreeing with him about how they used to be able to read and focus better than they can now.

.... riiiiight.

Well I used to do nothing but read all day. Then I spent years doing internet all day (hey, home schooled... lots of free time and no activities to pour it into), and I still spent plenty of time on the net.

Guess what? I can still pick up a book and read for 4 hours without getting bored once.

This is for Mari, because I am sure that she, like I, will be highly amused by my antics. For those of you who can tell I never quite made it to the top of the pitch in this clip, I did eventually get up to the C, and then the C# on pitch, but I did that near the end of my practice and didn't record it.

This is totally useless, but playing with it has taught me other things about my voice, so I keep toying with it every once in a while.

Oooh, P.S.: Just a FYI disclaimer... doing that is a fantastic way to blow out your cords and ruin them forever if you don't know what you're doing. I only do it for a brief period of time and not very often (every week or two at the most), plus I am 100% warmed up through the rest of my range before even trying this and I'm using a lot of support to keep pressure off of my throat... which works to a degree but I'm certainly not doing it correctly yet

Manga, like most paperbacks, science fiction, etc., starts with t&a and works up... if writing blogs fries your brain so quickly that you no longer can do any reading, you haven't been reading the complex stuff, to start with.
