I think I'm going to come out to my oldest sister tomorrow, and maybe my second oldest as well... if I don't chicken out.

The parents I'm not ready for, but I talked to my friend for a while about it today... and I think the time is probably right to get some gears set in motion.

I'm scared, but I've felt for a really long time like it was something I wanted to do... wanted, but couldn't. I hate lying, and this has been one of the biggest... things... I've had to hide since I was 11 or 12.

Ergh. wish me luck.

Thanks, Hector .

No, they don't know. I've hinted before, and God knows my shopping fetish, ability to find my mother and sister amazing clothes, and excited hand-flailing should've been a tip off.... but no. They're going to make me do this the difficult way .

I picked tomorrow in part because my sister's boyfriend is going to be over, and I'd kind of like to come out to my second-oldest while he's around... because his sister is a lesbian, and... I don't want my sister to feel alone, or betrayed when I tell her. I've been really close to her for the last... two years?

If she's... I don't know... disgusted, or shocked, or hates me when I tell her, I don't want her to have to face that alone. If she needs comforting, but doesn't want to be around me, I want someone there she -can- be close to.

I don't think she will be... but I wont take any risk of hurting her more than I 'have' to. I love her to bits.

Good luck Tessar - I really can't imagine anything harder than having to come out to your family. I'm sure it will be a positive experience. Or you could just not, and tell her to log in to entmoot again?

Tessar, I'm on pins and needles here. Have you told them yet? If so, how did it go?

Thank you, everyone. It went really well.

My oldest sister just laughed and said she's known it for about four years. My second oldest and her boyfriend were fine with it, although I think they were very surprised when I said that I wasn't sure how I felt about the religious issue... I think they were both expecting me to just say, "oh, yes, I'll still be 100% Catholic."

My oldest sister feels more the way I do about the religious side of it, and she said she would only be angry if I found a boyfriend and she didn't get to meet him .

So, the one sister said she knew for sure, although the other one said she hadn't really been sure... so my parents must know, at least subconsciously. Definitely not coming out to them for a while, though, and my sisters both encouraged me to -not- come out to the parents till I've moved out in three or four years.

So... ANYWAYS.

I'm gonna go collapse into a puddle, now, and have a very small melt down of relief and happiness.

Congrats! Most be a huge relief to have that out of the way.
I remember when my best friend told me she was lesbian... that was quite a shock. She didn't bring it very well either. But in the end she didn't change, nor did I, so we're still best friends.
Actually it's quite fun to look a movies when she is criticizing the girls, my other friend is criticizing the guys and I am just humoring them both.

Completely on a different note: perhaps we should start an awards thread for different categories, like funniest mooter, happiest mooter, most knowledgeable mooter, whatever and vote once every year or so. I know there are the elections, but these awards could be in reach also for the non-politically engaged or otherwise pretty much normal members.
How about it? Aye or Nay?

Congratulations, Tessar. Your pink triangle is in the mail.

Maia, no competition, if you please. If I don't win "funnest mooter", I'll surely cry.

How about a "say something nice about another mooter" thread, instead?

I'm glad it went well, Tessar. You know some of my best friends are gay. It doesn't change who you are. You're still the same Tessar. *Moothug*

I'm very glad for that, Tessar. You can usually trust family enough that things like this will end up all right. Bless you.
