My Hobbit is the illustrated version, my Silmarillion is just a paperback, and my LoTR is a one-book-edition with a movie cover. However, my Dutch LoTR has a nice white cover with golden lettering and an illustration I think from the man himself.

Funny how you can tell us Tolkien-fans apart. We compare our book-editions like another would compare cars.

Yes I do! But my mum has a black one. Actually, we did discuss it because I said I was buying my mum one for her birthday last year. I remember now

So true

We have two Hobbit editions in the family, one is the Ballantine Books edition from 1973 (cover of the River-Running and Bilbo on a barrel) and the other is the Houghton Mifflin edition from 1989 (really cool cover of Smaug on his treasue-heap)

The Silmarillion edition is that published by HarperCollins in 1994, and Lord of the Rings is Unwin Books 1979 (my favorite!)

"And we're back on M.O.O.T. 102,2 with the Moots playing this Depeche Mode tune slightly changed and this Maryah Carey tune also slightly changed (a rebroadcast from a earlier date)..."

Your own personal Hector
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who cares
Your own personal Hector
Someone to hear your prayers
Someone who's there

Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer

Take second best
Put me to the test
Things on your chest
You need to confess
I will deliver
You know i'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith
Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal Hector...

Feeling unknown
And you're all alone
Flesh and bone
By the telephone
Lift up the receiver
I'll make you a believer

I will deliver
You know i'm a forgiver

Reach out and touch faith

Your own personal Hector

Reach out and touch faith

"And here is the Maryah Carey tune..."

There's a Hector
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are
There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away
And then a Hector comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a Hector lies in you
It's a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear
And then a Hector comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a Hector lies in you
Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You'll find the way
And then a Hector comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a Hector lies in you

GW, thanks a million for the inspiring songs!

I think the court should take into consideration all the good qualities I have as enumerated in these two songs!

My Tolkien book collection provides samples from various artists.
My TTT and RotK paperbacks have Alan Lee illustrations. My Sil hardcover has a beautiful Ted Nasmith illustration on it. Then I have the LotR appendix as a separate book, with a front cover drawn by John Howe. So I have maybe the three most famous Tolkien artists right there

My FotR and the Hobbit have covers by two additional artists too.

Tonight I tried to make a pot of rice a special way.... first I rinsed out the rice about six or seven times till the water was coming out (somewhat) clear, then I let it sit in water for about 20 minutes before putting it in the pot... let it come to a boil, turned off the heat, and then covered the pot for 20 minutes.

I will say... it didn't burn, and it isn't hard at all, but it's quite sticky and just a tiiiny bit mushy, which it wasn't supposed to be. *sigh* Could be a couple of things... either my pot is too thin (the website warned about that), I didn't use the right kind of rice, I didn't let it soak long enough (site said 20-30 min), or it could be something like the garlic powder that I added to the water.

Oh well... still pretty dang delicious . Had it with a stirfry of beef, ham, broccoli, orange bell pepper, onion, celery, and mushrooms. There was very little meat in it, as I was trying to be really heavy on veggies and light on the meat, but the whole thing just turned out tasting fantastic . I was very happy with it.

I think this is week three of my diet, and my body is definitely adjusting to the more veggies thing. I still wish I were eating a cheese burger or summat, but I'm not having to stuff myself as completely as I was at first to feel full.

I never cared for bell peppers, regardless of the colour.

Rice and stirfry are always good, though.

I found a tea in the cafeteria labelled Red Rose. This made me want to hear that gorgeous round, Rose Red, but alas, I can't find any good versions on youtube.

Those are amazing. I've had mine for five years and counting. Unfortunately a bit short on space, with only 1 GB.

I just gave my woefully abridged presentation on the Cahuilla Indians, which is the local tribe in the desert where I live. It was supposed to be abridged to about 10 minutes, 15 maximum. But they let me keep talking and when I was finally finished, before we even got to questions and answers, I was told I had been up there for "well over half an hour." After Q&A, I had been up there almost 45 mins.

Quite! Ted Naismith is woefully underrated. It's a shame that the DelRey paperbacks with his paintings are no longer available, aside from being found used.

My copy of The Hobbit has his Rivendell painting as its cover. I just love that picture ...

Hells, no. Celery, carrots, broccoli, corn, peas (as long as they are fresh, or frozen), onions, lettuce, cabbage... Pretty much every single vegetable is superior. Except beets. And eggplants?

Do avocados count as vegetables? If so, then they are DEFINITELY the greatest vegetables ever.

MY copy of the hobbit has a picture of Gandalf walking up to the door of Bag End, where Bilbo is smoking a Pipe. I don't know who did it, but it came with the movie books (which are the ones I have). I don't feel very special, but I do own the books.
