Well I personally didn't like Jackson's screen play for LOTR. So I didn't really want it to win.

Just doing a quick tally:

FotR = 4 oscars
ABM = 2 oscars
Moulin Rouge = 2
Black hawk down = 2

So we are still doing bestest

Maybe those judges took it the wrong way with so many book fans saying this and that about the movie. Hopefully they read before they watched.

It's cool that the Nash's are at the awards ceremony. I should have went openiong night to se A Beautiful Mind - the Nash's decided to go that night. It would have been strange watching a movie about someone's life - knowing that they're in the audience. The Princeton theatre is really small too - so it's cool.

I wonder if they have an overwhelming urge to shout out 'IT's THATS NOT HOW IT WAS!'.
Or perhaps the large pay cheque in their bank accounts keeps them happy...

And they've just done the moment's silence for Sep 11th.
My god, when they call it a moment, they really mean that.
Silent for about what, 5 seconds? Perhaps it's cos the audience has to stand for it and most are blind drunk or just lazy so it's all they can manage.

The Nash's in an article in the paper and interviews I've seen - said that he really liked the film. I don' t think they wanted some stuff making it into the movie to begin with. But they said they understood their life coulded be portrayed exactly as it was - like being divorced, living together, living apart and then getting remarried.

Well, I think it's only fair you wouldn't want the fact you were homosexual (now you are married!) and racist up on the big screen.

You have to remember it's a Hollywood minute - everything is fake out there. You thought when they said a MOMENT of silence - they meant a FULL minute???

With the 4 big awards left, they've just read out the results of a live poll from the public on the UK show.

Of interest are:

Best supporting actor - they said Gandalf. The oscars said nope
Best Director - they said Peter Jackson. Our survey said (*YES!)
Best OVerall film thingy - They said - FotR.

So basically the public loves the film, although we already know that.

*sorry - thought I was playing family fortunes.

OK so now I'm revising my original estimate of 5 oscars to 6. (Aren't I the optimist!)

I can't help feeling PJ will take the best director, and if he does then best film should be a no brainer (I'm still curious as to why they make the distinction - a film is a director's vision anyway).

I still think that most people love the movie because of the book. I don't think FOTR stands on it's own as best picture. It's a good movie - but I don't think it deserves best picture.

*crick grudginly agrees w/ jerseydevil, but notices at the same time how hard it is to type w/ her fingers crossed*

I'm still fuming about McKellan not getting his due, but we already knew that the oscars people were messed up. How in the world could Titanic get nominated for 14 oscars??!!!

In a way I agree, but my bias means I have to hope it wins
I think though that it brings to 'ignorant' cinema audiences the same (in as much as it could) that Lord of the Rings brings to readers - it shows a world so much more real and historical and simply 'there' than they are used to. Sure it's been dumbed down, but let's face it, cinema audiences are not exactly used to anything other than the same old **** again and again (which is why I feel MR is a good film - it's different). Fellowship is different. It's 'real' in a way very few films have ever tried to show.

On another note (cos I'm bored) I'm on the third part of 'His Dark Materials' (The amber spyglass). Now these are truly amazing books. I'd not agree they are up there with Tolkien, but they are damn close. If you've read LotR, go check 'em out. And then you'll understand me when I say I want Pantalaimon!!!!

Heh, let's not also forget it won most of 'em
Which FotR is failing to do

What'll be cool though is when all films are out seeing how many oscars it won in total. I know most will argue it's 3 films, but we know the truth

AARRGHH! Damn near had a heart attack!
Went back to TV after typing the above and something else was on! Thought I'd missed the last awards Fortunately it'd just swapped channels (main channel for big awards, even if it's now 5am). Do you get this stupid stuff in the US? Having to channel swap halfway through a show?

Agh! Don't remind me! When it came up, I swear Celine Dione followed me like a banshee on every public transport which had a radio! They even had a disco version! (yech)
