Emily Dickinson was a genius.

Writing poetry for school sucks.

Still digging around some old files and found my obligatory hometown poem...

Durham Sunset

Every hue of every flame
Brushstroke layers of orange fire,
All colours that can warm and kindle,
Candle glow and funeral pyre,
Gilded script
And Viking amber,
Norman torch
And bishops’ gold,
All the setting shades of sun,
Of embered hearth,
And furnace glow.
One thousand years
Of regal purple,
Of battle-red
And ochre rust,
All there,
Amid flat turquoise skies,
All there,
One February dusk.

That was really good, I liked all of the imagery.

Yes, Emily Dickenson was a genius... I also like Dorothy Parker and E.E. Cummings and Robert Frost and Poe and on and on and on... too many to name them all.

Here's one of my favorites by Dorothy Parker:

Solace

There was a rose that faded young
I saw its shattered beauty hung
Upon a broken stem.
I heard them say, "What need to care
With roses budding everywhere?"
I did not answer them.

There was a bird brought down to die
They said, "A hundred fill the sky,
What reason to be sad?"
There was a girl whose lover fled
I did not wait the while they said,
"There's many another lad."

I don't think I've read that poem before, Rûdhaglarien, but I really like it! Ohh, all these poems are awesome! I have absolutely no gift of writing poetry, but I love to write it. Here's a haiku I had to write for school, It's really stupid but here it goes.

The forest Mirkwood
is captured in its beauty
By the love of elves.

There really isn't much of an excuse for such a sorry poem, but hey, I'm only 13.

HobbitChick - that first poem you posted was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! It's way better than anything I've ever written....

Well anyhoo, here's one that I wrote, it's not that great...

GUTTERBALL

Ball in hand
Stepping up to the line

"Okay, I can do it this time."

Swinging it back
Letting it fly

"Um, hi, Julie? This is Chris. I was just wondering, would you like to go to the banquet on Friday with me?"

Watching the swirling ball of fire
It rolls along hopefully, picking up speed

"Hahaha, yeah right, creep!"

Sharp left turn
Another gutterball

Hey, G88, that seems to show you are mad at someone, unless you're not talking about you. But then, i'm such a cynical person i can probably find bad in everything!

Edit. I posted my song here, but it was my dark lyrics again and i didn't want some people to see it.

Haha, no it's not about me! It's just about people in general, the outcasts who try real hard and are great people but never make it, and the stuck-up, too-good-for-you preps who never look past outward appearances. No real personal experience involved.

Our Literature teacher degraded us males when she made us write a sonnet from Romeo to Rosaline where she would let the girls mark it. Bleurgh, so yeah, I wrote the following in PINK INK! :

Forgive me fair beauty for I have sinned,
Flitting in thy rose savouring love’s sweet.
Thy step draws near and I am hapless pinned,
‘Neath the dark starlight on my lonely feet.
O Sweet Rose why dost thou torture me deep,
Woe am I without thee as senses dim.
Walking in a dream, drowning in a sleep,
As my lost spirit weeps, struggling to swim.
Nay love is bitter, bewildered is me,
My soul grows faint, I bleed slow from the heart.
O Rosaline I have to be with thee,
For the blessed warmth of life with thee depart.
Wherefore I lament, my body graved in stone,
I wake from my dreams, and I am alone.

As for other poems, I quite like 'Uphill' by...um...um...a poet. One who died early from...well...sigh. Anybody care to help?

Pink ink? Fair enough.
And what makes you think that a sonnet is degrading to a male? I've written a few and have never been the worse for it. Though, I must admit I am a kind of romantic, and so enjoy to write such things.
Nonetheless I commend you on your sonnet. It was excellently done. I once played Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, and I think you captured the feelings of Romeo towards Rosaline perfectly. though now the question you must ask is, was it love or lust?
I recently wrote a love poem for an English class. I had to turn it in, but I'll make sure to post it once I get it back.
And I can see why people would dislike writing poetry for school, but personally I like it. Not only is it an easy assignment, but it gives me a chance to write again when I have little time to do so.

I write lots of stuff in PINK INK I use an erasable pink pen, nonetheless.

I don't write many love poems... not enough of me cares for that kind of stuff, I suppose... I mean, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is basically the only of Shakespeares plays that I don't like, but, hey, that's just me.

I don't like writing for school, either, mostly because I hate it when people tell me what to write. I don't know.

*timid knock on door*
*door creaks open*

Hi!!!!! I'm back after a 1 1/2 month break!!! Sighhhhhh.... *JarJar voice* So good bein' home!

"Lament of Sam"
O'er clear smooth waves
the gray ship bore him;
To the land of the Lady
of glimmering stars.
There evermore will he stay
where the stars never dim.
And here I stay with tears.
Will I see your face never again?

"Not this time, dear Sam."
Those were his words last.
A last embrace, then....
I saw him no more.
O Frodo where are you?
Are you now only in my past?
Is it my fell doom to
remain forever without you?

After war, battles, and strife,
we won through together
Through Darkness and famine
we together pulled through
"I'm comin' too, Frodo." I said.
"This storm we'll both weather."
Your parting words linger still
dear to my ears.

O Valimar! Sweet are thee,
but bitter to my tongue
Tell me, seabirds white;
does Frodo still remain there?
Speak, O stars ever-white;
is my friend's song still sung?
Answer, sea-sent river;
does my master still live?

Many charms holds
this Middle-Earth, my home.
Sweet is the music that
plays in its streams.
So dear is this land,
these rivers white with foam
But the world mourns now;
it rains outside, and on the window panes.

It weeps for the loss
of the dearest of friends.
It weeps for a hobbit:
Frodo Baggins of the Shire.
It weeps a message
no one ever sends:
"My Frodo, come back to
your dear, only Sam."

Hope has now nearly
forsaken my mind.
" Nothing ever dampens
your spirits, Sam."
Mr. Frodo, my hope
I would soon find,
If I could but see
your dear face once more.

I remember his words
so close now he's left.
Every smile, each frown,
every sigh of content....
Those days are spent,
and of happiness bereft.
As you once said Frodo,
"Where shall I now find rest?"

A single sentence of hope
lingers in my mind a moment:
"Your time may come;
for you were a Ringbearer too."
It takes me but a second
to figure what you meant.
But me? Am I worthy
to step upon those shores?

To see the Lady
who shines ever-white
The Lord, who clad in blue,
commands the wind itself?
To sit at their feet
where they judge wrong or right
And gems take the place
of shells on the shore?

But to see thee once more
and hear your glad voice!
To feel your embrace,
and speak to you again!
O indeed, then indeed,
would my sad heart rejoice,
Gladly sailing away
into the Uttermost West.

Until then shall I stay,
waiting for the call
I shall listen for the flutes
and the pipes of the elves,
Who will lead me out
into the crisp air of fall,
And take me hither
to the Blessed Realm.

There, may it be there!
I might see my friend's sillouhete
Along the gem-strewn
shores, walking, mayhap
Waiting for me to came....
oh Frodo! Are you waiting yet?
There will I see him?
May it be Samwise.
May it be.

The Ringbearer

Edit: The formating was different, but the posting thingy won't cooperate. Every other line was indented, and the last 'May it be' was off to the side.

Wow, Ringbearer, I wish I could write that good! Those were both awesome!!

This poem that I wrote kinda reminds me or when Aragorn told Bilbo If you have the cheek to make verses about Earendil in the house of Elrond, that is your own affair Because I know absolutely nothing about what I was writing about, and it's not very good. But anyways here it goes....

Elrond's lament for his wife

My elven lady she once was
but now she is no more.
I shall never forget the torture they gave her
in the den of the heartless orcs.
So now, my elven lady, I say
Namarie, farewell.
Farewell to the beauty that graced this world
Farewell to the love of my life.
Farewell to the light of our elven hearts
My lady,
Namarie- farewell.

Thats really good, hobbitchick! I feel the same way about science. That's where I get all of my ideas too! This is one I got the idea for in science:

The Last Breath of Life

As I looked into your eyes
While you lay bleeding to death
On the soft green grass,

You looked into my eyes
With a softness I had never
Seen in you before,

Then I knew that
Outside your bitter image
Was a sweetness,

Even though I've known
You for only a short time
I feel like I've known you
For all eternity,

And now that your last
Breath is soon to come
I know that I will never
Know more of your soul,

Now as your chest stops rising
And then falls one last time
Tears fill my eyes thinking of
One last soul that is lost.

what do you guys think!

Well, here's a poem of mine. It got published in an anthology, and is copyrighted to my name, so I don't have to worry about anyone stealing it. It is a poem about Forevermore, the here-after in Lisman. It was in a way inspired by Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven" (Awesome author. Love his works to tiny pieces. )

Forevermore
by...wouldn't you like to know!

So fair and perfect is the blessed land of Forevermore,
That holy land, that fair place of pure and holy bliss.
There, tear will drop and blood be shed never, nevermore,
Nor the old ways of yesteryear will ever again be missed.

In this unblemished, undying land of true and perfect peace,
War and famine, plague and death, will everlastingly end.
Pray that when life so sweet and good at last flies from thee,
Undying soul to Undying lands will eternally ascend.

So far and so pure is the blessed land of Forevermore,
Where crystal tear will drop and crimson blood be shed never, nevermore.
