Out of curiosity, what exactly are the wolves planning to do inside the city?

I know there's the idea of having them eat the maid and saying that she was drunk at attacked by wolves, but wouldn't a human being eaten by wolves inside a walled city during the early autumn when game is usually plentiful be a bit suspicious?

Or really, an indication of darker forces at work equivalent to a giant flashing neon sign reading "Something is not right!"

And Earniel is right about the Eagles, this bunch has got to be rouge in order for that to be in character.

CS, hysterical post! I will never look at Khamul the same! I love how you took the canon of the Nazgul's fear of water (which JRRT says in his letters was a neat idea but never fully fleshed out, and had obvious flaws in LOTR!) and made Khamul have to sit in the middle of the boat, muttering suspiciously un-Khamul-like things under his breath! Very funny!

I don't know whether rogue Eagles did exist. But there are plenty of other species of big birds of prey available to choose from, like kites or buzzards.

(note on my most recent post, #382 - the ring info is taken from HoME 10, Morgoth's Ring, the essay "Laws and Customs among the Eldar". It doesn't say what finger the engagement ring is worn on, only that it's silver - but it does say that at the end of the engagement period, the betrothed return the silver rings to each other and exchange gold rings, which they wear on the right index finger. So I thought it made sense to wear the silver engagement ring on the right index finger, too.)

No, frankly the royalties for this "sitting in the middle of the boat" and "I want my mom" should go to TD-Khamul himself. He invented these details in one of the posts in the "Fellowship of the r-wraiths", I only borrowed them.

Ok, the new nazgul has been formally introduced, and his name is Tolvadok, which means, I think, Wind-Death, which is rather meaningless. I intended Winged Death, but that sounded very ugly in the Black Speech.

I have worked out a history, and a character, and I'll try to post up a bio soon. Meanwhile, Gordis, the Chancellor has one unheard message in his inbox! Waiting patiently for a reply...

Well, I don't really know. But I did think we had shelved the whole idea of the wolves eating the maid, hadn't we.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with the wolves, falco and the lynxes. Perhaps I should have them go back into the wilderness so there will be no more confusion.

One thing - what "hordes of elves" are you talking about at the Chancellor's house? Do you just mean that there are elves at the reception? because as far as I know, there aren't any at his house, and Rian is at Orrodel. Oh, maybe Professor Mahtaliel? I just wanted to get that clear, because maybe I misunderstood you.

GrayWolf - I was planning on having Tyaron meet up with the wolves in a day or two, so keep them lurking in the area, please!

It a nazgul takes OFF the RING he will be like in the Lord of The Rings: body invisible BUT clothes visible. Great to scare somebody, but not to hide. In this RPG Nazgul ALWAYS wear rings and Change from one World to another with a SPELL.

Actually, I couldn't follow Tolvadok's movements... How can one have the Main hall on the right and palace on the left without getting into the garden?
What open gate did he peer in? If the one on the right of the Reception building, then how could he see the fountain? And again, Rian was never near the fountain, as far as I understand. They were in the park between the Palace and the Main hall.
And MY FLOWERBEDS ARE TRIEVING!!! NOT depressed!

Anyway, Serenoli, don't take it too seriously. I only feel like the Evil Cartographer should.

Nay, not at all:

firstly there is a very organised alliance of air and earth , insects, mammals, birds etc ... then there is the Guild of predators ... the Tharbad guild run by Cruel claw the eagle Lord .... who, like Falco from the mountains guild, Wise-whit (currently) and Boomerang are members of the high council of the western alliance ... among many others ....

now what has been posted so far: just before entering the reception boom was ( unaware to himself) the object of a failed attack by (as it was later determined) a rogue buzzard ... this being witnessed by many owls, squirrels ... including the Leader walnut... and some hundred or so very excited tortoises ...)

so by the time Beautiful boom leaves the reception many mesengers from various affiliates are awaiting him .... including two eagles sent by cruel claw in case of any further attacks on a lord of air and the western alliance ....

so... we have the post where the accompany him to greet the arrivals from the guild of the Mountains .... nothing wrong with that ...

now the eagles with their sharp eyes describe the scene to Boom ... it is boom alone who realises that since Lomi is there the Companion must be no other than her nazgul ... the eagles do not know this: again: so no problem

as members of the guild they (the eagles) may not be over fond of wolves or wargs ... but as guild members they are to be respected ....esp since they are from another chapter or Guild ....

besides all this ... tolkien writes that not ALL eagles are noble or kind or "lawful" .... so no problem a third time


fourthly, the eagles as all others assume the nazgul are dead or in fragile body-less spirit form ... quite possibly that their former master is too .... so why would they suspect the lying rider by her horse .. staring up at the stars of being a nazgul?

Fifthly even were they to be aware .... it is by no means certain that they would on-the-spot find it conducive to themselves to break suddenly from the guild and make themselves enemies of the whole alliance .... and ALL the guilds ... and certainly these 2 eagles would not presume to usurp their lord and make such a dcision on their own anyway .... i do not think either that Eagles nor tolkien's portrayals of eagles would think like that .... they look after themselves first and consider later with whom they ally themselves ....

now these two eagles have but been given an instruction by their lord to ensure that a fellow lord of air is safe ... especially as other guild's members were in the vicinity .... Cruel claw has numerous reasons here: firstly an attack on any lord of Air is an attack on him and all other lords .... secondly as leader of the Guild he neither wants such an embarrasment on his claws ...and espcially not be so ridiculed when lord falco and White patch have come as high-ranking emmisaries from another Guild ....

all the two eagles have done is pass on a message, fly wing-cover to boom and at his request go catch a welcome to tharbad greeting for the wolves (as fellow guild of predators) from the mountains .... SO where is there a problem????

... all i was saying is so far there is no reason for the eagles to think anything ... they do not know of any nazgul ... and the wolves are technically guild members ... so even if they are "lawful" eagles .... and NOT all are ... and that IS canon ... i cannot see a problem with it as posted so far ....

RÃ*an's finally found a guy that has both human and elven blood, and she's definitely interested (especially given his warm response to her...) Eärniel - really lovely post! I loved the description of the fountains, esp. the cool one that mimics the sea. Neat idea! And Eärniel falls into fountains? No wonder she and RÃ*an get along so well!

The problem is that the fountain is hidden in the middle of the garden. To go there from the Main Hall, one should pass another, inner gate. The fountain can't be seen from any gate! That is what doesn't fit inSerenoli's post.
So, I think, Tolvadok saw Rian speaking with Earniel all right, but NOT near the fountain. Just in the park.
And I loved Serenoli's comment about packs of elves around! Really difficult life for Aiwendis and Ilmenzor.
