Yesterday afternoon, I spent over an hour reading old Teacup threads, stuff dating back to 2005, and reminiscing heavily. We really had a good time back then, didn't we? Aside from the family-fight-like glitch here and there, of course, lol! I sure have mellowed out over the years, I mean I'm still the same old me but I've become less of a hothead, I suppose. Older & wiser.

And I was remembering sooooo many cool people, reading all their old posts, people I haven't heard from or seen for years. I'm so grateful for Entmoot. This site and its denizens helped me through a few rough years, and it's the first site I ever joined or commented on/took a part in. Good old Entmoot...

Remember when we used to decorate/remodel the Teacup all the time, and the menagerie of exotic anthropomorphized animals everywhere, and the occasional outrageous outbreak of battle (food, lightsabers, heavy artillery, water balloons) which would leave the place in ruins, and the subsequent cheerful collective rebuilding, and the FOOD! and the BOOZE! and all that coffee, espresso, chai, tea....

We really had a fun time back then, didn't we? We truly were an intimate virtual family, complete with the occasional family fights and beefs, some serious, some trivial. We genuinely cared about each other, and we were all desperately addicted to our 'Moot. Everyone would completely freak out any time the site froze for a day, or lost a few posts, or what have you.

I think I have an actual physical reaction to "Entmoot green" - that background color that comes up when the site starts to come up. I remember when there were server problems and you couldn't always get the site up, and I would be upset, and then all of a sudden WHAM up comes the Entmoot green and I would like get a sudden endorphin surge and such a wonderful feeling, like the door to the secret garden opened ...

It was SO wonderful to find other people that actually knew about Glorfindel and Gandalf and Frodo, etc. etc. I'm pretty well talked-out now, but it's still nice to just kind of hang around with my Moot friends.

I"m glad you found something you like, but I won't join you - I've just never developed a taste for licorice!

I have the coolest new tea mug, though - it's totally from Middle Earth. One of those things where you're just innocently walking along and then WHAM, it hits you - something that you just KNOW was made in, say, Mirkwood or Lorien, and somehow went through some magic portal and ended up on a shelf in a store. I have some earrings like that, and a necklace (that I gave to a friend of mine for her wedding - and boy, it was HARD!!! but she really loved it too, and she was a Tolkien fan and it was perfect for her wedding dress!), and now a ceramic tea mug. It has the coolest Aurora Borealis painting on it ...

You did it, Earn - now I have to have some tea!

Well, I love tea, but I branch out very little as I don't often find teas beyond the very normal breakfast-types that I like. But this tea -well- really clicked, silly as it might sound.

I've been very happy with my Entmoot mug, which only heightens the joy of drinking tea. Although somebody at work chipped it when washing. Boo. It's not that noticably. (In fact the good quality of the mug took me a bit by surprise.) But I'm tempted to buy another one and store it safely away as a spare, just in case something else worse happens to my mug.

Mint for me.

We really have mellowed in terms of crazy shenanigans and spirited debate. I still have my TLA T-shirt when I want to feel nostalgic though.

Licorice? Good heavens... o_O
I'll stick to green tea with lemon *hearts*

I do sometimes miss the glomping and tackling and whacking people (especially Hector) on the head. *reminisces*

*yaawn* I miss the old entmoot bunch. Maybe when the Hobbit (A book I finally read and finished last night, actually) comes out on screen people will wake back up and be interested again.

Like the elves leaving Middle Earth, I think that Entmoot will never really be back like it was, because it will never be the "first time" again - the first time we found a group of people that loved Tolkien, and you talk and talk and talk, and finally, eventually, you DO get talked out.

Also, I think discussion boards in general might be dying out, because of things like Twitter and Facebook and other social media - people have gone from long, involved, intelligent and interesting posts to tweets, ya know? (I'll never forget the Athrabeth thread; it was so lovely). What do y'all think - do you think discussion boards in general are dying out? Anyway, I still love hanging around the old place because of the wonderful people and the wonderful memories.

I think there will be a resurgence when the Hobbit movie comes out, but never like when the LOTR movies came out.

I think it depends on the type of discussion board. Besides, they represent a community, something which Twitter cannot really compete with. If people really want to talk, they won't use Twitter. Or Facebook.

I do feel like people have lost most of their interest in message boards. I have lately had a lot of trouble finding time to post, but I still love message boards. But I do feel as though they are less popular now very specifically because of things like Facebook and Twitter.

But actually I'm killing my facebooking for the time being... or maybe I should just say "Severely Restricting." That and text messaging eat up "minutes" from my day that turn into hours all put together. So no more than 20 minutes of facebook a day (10 in the morning, 10 before bed) and I put my cellphone on silent (no vibration or noise) and only check it at the top of the hour.

I rather agree with you Rian; for us it may never be the same again, but for the potential new crowd that might come to the boards because of the hobbit movie, it might at least wake some semblance of what was, back up. I don't quite remember the poster, or the thread it was in, but someone posted a few years ago something down right entish about the new posters cropping up upon the fallen trunks of long since slumbering posters and creating a new forest among the roots of the old. Silly as it was, I thought it was rather poetic and quite fitting. I think I may have to search the forum for it, now.

I blame religion and politics. This has nothing to do with hobbits, ringwraiths, dragons or elves! To hell with politics and religion.

What a nice thought, and put very well! I think there will definitely be a resurgence after the Hobbit movies, but I don't think it will ever be quite the same. But at least we "old-timers" can share our knowledge with the newbies, and stir the embers of Tolkein-love into a bright, burning flame

& I agree with you both: Rian, who put it so sweetly as Elves leaving Middle Earth, and Sane's response- Isn't it amazing, after all these years, that the miscellaneous crap of the past doesn't matter any longer, and the strongest surviving thing is that original friendship? It's amazing to ME.

I love you guys! I mean it, i really do. 'Specially you, Sane. *kisses*
