The bunker..

My idea of a perfect day.. An island in the outter archipelago, tea and a good book.

The Island.
Dune Messiah...good book, yes.

Looks like fun, but I doubt I'd have enough concentration to read.

Fair enough. I had been walking around the island for an hour before that, though.. Beautiful place. And a great time to go out, too - many birds have their young now.

So, here I am again.. With more photos. A couple of weeks ago (or something) I went for the second owl excursion of the owl ecology course. The first time we went, the eggs had just been laid. Now, the young were everything from a few days to a few weeks old. These are all ural owls, Strix uralensis.

The teacher of the course, Hannu, went up to weigh the young and take other measurements.. With protective clothing, for obvious reasons (see the claw photo from my last excursion if you don't believe me.. ).

A bad photo of the owl's ear. X)

The young ones got ringed (if that's the right word..), too.

A researcher and the young owl..

And this is the reason for the protective clothing. One of our tasks was to keep track of where the female was and tell Hannu if it came flying towards him.

Aaaand, just ending with a couple of photos of the young one.

I absolutely adore owl chicks. They looks so cute and grumpy at the same time. Yay for owlets!

The owl in the photo with the researcher has a look that says: "Dare poke me with that finger, and I bite you!"

Owls are very pretty and your pics are great as usual, but this is one of the few instances in which I have to say: grown up owls look much prettier then the young ones!

Hehe.. I absolutely agree with you, Mari.

They're great, though. And it was more or less like you say, Eärniel - just that instead it was "If you dare to touch me, I'll **** on you". Lots of fun.

Right after the owl excursion, I went to Sweden (Ragunda close to Östersund, for those of you who might be interested..) for a climbing course. Beautiful place, and a very inspiring course. So, here are more photos.. X)

The first evening I took a walk up to the walls, just as the sun was setting..

.. then down to the lake, where we got ready for bed.

We always seem to go the beautiful places.. The first evening was still.

Action..

One of our two instructors, both brilliant climbers. It was a pleasure to watch them climb.. Dancing up the walls.

There were a couple of people who were a bit afraid of heights, but they did brilliantly.

We had three people called Kalle/Calle on the course.. Out of eight participants. X) These are two of them.

A quiet evening looks nice. Were you standing on a pier when you took it?

I like the portrait very much. It's a rock, but one with greens in it. It breaks the image a bit.

Nice photos, GW. (always had a soft spot for shore-stones and granite) Could I possibly use DSC 99 as a desk top image for a while?
