Looking forward to the 4th -- going to Austin for the weekend! Never been. Should be slightly warmer than it is in San Francisco.

Very nice flyover of the ISS last night Some complete strangers overheard us, and we had a little group watching, with one guy on the phone to his wife ("Get the kids outside - some lady says the ISS is flying overhead in a minute and it's supposed to be good!")
My favorite predictor app is "ISS Spotter".

Sounds like you have good skies for stargazing. Am a little jealous. We have so often cloudy skies and so much light pollution that you don't get to see a lot of stars or space stations over here.

No, I really don't have good skies at all - the ISS is just very bright quite often. It's frequently as bright as Venus. You wouldn't think so, but sometimes it's the brightest thing in the sky, so it's really quite easy to spot even with lights around (the spotter gives viewing times around dusk, which is the best time to see it; dark where you are standing, but it's high enough to catch the sun).
Try that app, and wait for one of the brighter fly-overs to take a look. It's fun! We won't see it for a week now over here, though.

You mean permanently? or just temporarily? That's quite a change!

Temporarily, for a couple of years. Probably. Yes, it's going to be a big change! I look forward to it, but it also makes me a bit nervous. Fortunately, I'll have wonderful people around when it gets too weird.

That sounds great, Nel! Keep us informed, especially with your pictures
happy - just finished a nice re-read of Austen's "Northanger Abbey" - haven't read it for years! It is SOOOO funny And ... unbelievably I'm happy about some medical insurance stuff (most of my medical insurance stuff goes on the venting thread) - I just stopped by the pharmacy to pick up some Lidoderm pain patches. My old insurance didn't cover them, and they are $10 per patch, so I used them VERY sparingly. I normally get 5 at a time for $50. I just used my last one, so I ordered a refill, expecting to get 5 for $50 but not sure what the new insurance would do. The lady said it was $15, which was a nice surprise BUT - that wasn't the only nice thing. When I got the bag, it was really heavy, because it contained not 5, but a whole box of 30 patches! Apparently, my new insurance covers it!!! Yay! These patches are such a help when the pain localizes, but I've been very sparing with them. Now I'll be able to control the pain much better

Today in America is our Thanksgiving Day! What we call a holiday (here in the US, that's a special day - as opposed to a trip, like in Europe) - in which families gather together, generally share a meal, with the original purpose of giving thanks to God for His Blessings through the year.
Happy Thanksgiving to all those celebrating!

Happy Thanksgiving to you, though I am too late. I'm in time for Black Friday though.

They are trying to introduce Black Friday in Norway too, now. They don't bother too much with Thanksgiving - there is a thanksgiving Sunday in the church year, but that would be a church thing and not a family thing at all - and we don't have the historical background for a true American Thanksgiving.
But the shops want Black Friday and are beginning to introduce it.

I only heard a few days ago - this year for the first time - why they call it "Black" Friday. It's from accounting jargon. The sales that day are meant to put retailers "in the black" - as opposed to staying "in the red".
Here I thought it was a dark and gloomy thing - to go do all that massive shopping the day after a peaceful family time at Thanksgiving. Saw where "The Onion" ran an article that 42 Million were killed in the worst Black Friday violence on record. Gotta love The Onion!
