Just saw An Unexpected Journey at the Imax. Ignore the naysayers, totally worth it.

I'm off to Morocco (again) tomorrow! We'll stay there for 3 weeks, and this time my mum and brother are coming for a while too!

Ah, fresh oranges...

Aside from some downer moments, thanks to two persons who shall remain unnamed, I had a FANTASTIC Christmas. I got quite the haul of loot, too.

My parents got me the blender I wanted, my sister got me some socks, my other sister got me some AWESOME t-shirts, my boss got me some chocolate and a $50 gift card, my good friend got me some wine glasses and wine, my very best friend got me a super cool board game, and my grandparents sent me a package of their aniseed cookies. Aniseed cookies are pretty much the greatest thing ever.

My family had an AMAZING lunch, courtesy of my mom and sisters, and then we watched A Christmas Story, and then played games on my iPad for hours (which I had loaded up the day before with some really fun multi-player games). So all in all it was a spectacularly fantastic Christmas.

With a great, great deal of luck either next year or the year after I'll be living in a house (probably a rent house) and we'll be able to have a proper Christmas with a tree and excessive garlands. I'm moving into an apartment for a year but hopefully I'll either move into a house next December (leave the apartment a few weeks early) or some time in January of 2014.

In September I joined the Rec Center at my job and started swimming after work. Most of the time I get there 2-3 times per week, and I'm slowly upping my yardage. THIS week I managed to go all 5 days, and totalled 3miles of swimming! That's ONE LEAGUE!

(just under 5km for my metric friends)

Every week I could. They mostly shut the PE facility down over the Holiday Break between semesters (3 weeks). Other than that, yes.

This was my second week back in the pool after that break.

Had my niece and her boyfriend visiting for four days- they're English, but doing a bit of travelling, so they stopped here in Taiwan between Thailand and Japan.

I haven't seen her since she was fourteen; she's now 28, so that was a big change. Been fun, but a bit nerve-wracking.

Seems a lot different since my backpacking days- they had their stops and hostels all booked ahead over the Internet, could skype and text home to show what they were up to- back in the day, my mom sometimes didn't even know what continent I was on!

Happy Year of the Snake!

Not very auspicious, compared to last year's Dragon, and already birthrates in the Sinosphere are projected to drop (last year was a mini baby-boom.)

Off to my wife's relatives for a few days, up in the mountains.

Can I bring a few college friends home for the holidays for a few days, my eldest son asked?

Sure, we replied- and eight of them showed up, his entire softball team, boys and girls both, camped out in our spare room, living room- everywhere.

The good part was they were all philosophy students, so we had some interesting talks!

It's actually been a really lovely day. I admit, I'm surprised. We had finally some decent spring weather. The pond (uncleaned though it is, unfortunately) is teeming with toads and newts. More than I ever seen together in the pond before. And four couples in amplexus! And a female frog in the small pond, thick with eggs! I hope a suitable froggy suitor hops along soon. I want tadpoles! LOADS! Did some spring pruning and cleaning in the garden. Had a nice long soak in the bath afterwards and cut my hair. If it wasn't for this nasty cold I'm still suffering from, this day couldn't be any better. And it's a bloody long time since I had such a day.

I love spring days that are happy and warm! Today I took our two labradors down to the dog park and gave them a thorough tiring-out by throwing the tennis ball. Naturally they wanted to lay down in the mud hole (why is there a mud hold in the dog park?! Who was it that was so irresponsible??), so it took about an hour to wash them off and dry them.

Oh - I need to get back to doing that. Used to do it regularly, but not for some time now.

I'm at least going to try to keep it up although that's not entirely up to me (I tend to get sick at the wrong moments) as the rules for donating are pretty strict.

Registered right before donating. Otherwise it'd only get delayed again. I've been wanting to do this for at least longer than a year, and there was always something that'd get in between.

I'm so thrilled now I didn't have any negative effects afterwards! I was worried a bit because I'm just above the minimum weight and I had forgotten to eat beforehand. Even the iron pills are going well. And they haven't called back saying "What is this flimsy water you've got in your veins, woman?! We can't do anything with it!" either so all is well.

Yay! I have a date for the publication of the Anthology!

It's titled Dawn of the Living Dead and my story is called "Beyond the Grave"

It comes out August 27th!
