Will you guys just stop rehashing this repetitive argument, and get the hell on topic.

As someone who is regularily involved in theatre I feel that Jackson did a really crummy job of adapting Lord of the Rings. The scenery's pretty, and most of the actors are well cast, and the fight scenes are undeniably cool, but the quality stops there. Just because something is being taken off paper and put on a stage or a screen doesn't mean you have to masscre the story. Jackson has made a ton of un-needed changes thus far and if the spoilers are true than he's made a whole lot more. That doesn't mean it'll be a bad movie, but it'll be a bad adaptation and that's really dissapointing to those who were looking forward to seeing Middle Earth as something more than words on paper.

I actually don't think the battle scenes are that good. At least helms deep. Watch Last Samurai and then Helms Deep. And
gandalf bonking denethor with his staff
is the dumbest thing I wizard could do. p.s. I hate helms deep!

Well I agree. But out of the movies - they are the only things that jackson really did "right". You mentioned that spoiler - well what about legolas snowboarding down the stairs or tossing gimli and stuff. The battle sequences - for me - are just eye candy. From what I have seen from the spoilers and from the past history of the movies there is little surrounding these action sequences to make the movies actually good.

I agree with your spoiler. Why would a wizard need to resort to physical violence. It match with anything that Gandalf would actually do. It is a huge change in his character and doesn't help the story.

Yep, and you don't see me defending TT do you. I never said those were okay. I hated FOTR and TT the first time I saw them in theaters. But I eventually learned to love FOTR. But TT I still watch trying to like it. ROTK will decide whether I love the trilogy or not. As for the snowboarding and tossing, they are not nearly as bad as an istari whacking the steward in his own kingdom. maybe gandalf really is a "dottering old fool" but I will wait before I pass judgement.

Well then I will publicly apologize for accusing you of being BB in hiding. I'm sure by the end of RotK more people will be thinking Gandalf is a "dottering old fool" - especially if what you have said is true. It sounds like a little old lady hitting someone with her pocketbook or an old man hitting someone with his cane. "Give me that Palantir you young whipper snapper" as Gandalf goes after Denethor with his staff.

Ummm... am I the only one who noticed this:

"The way the Ring is taken from Frodo and destroyed is not the way Tolkien said it was. Jackson "improved" the final Ring scene."

Now 'that' really is an outrage.

Yeah - I noticed it. I just thought the statement was too ridiculous for comment. On second look though - it shold be picked apart right down to the bones and used as a way of declaring that jackson is - well you know.

In this place will I abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'

'Then Tuor arrayed himself in the hauberk, and set the helm upon his head, and he girt himself with the sword; black were sheath and belt with clasps of silver. Thus armed he went forth from Turgon's hall, and stood upon the high terraces of Taras in the red light of the sun. None were there to see him, as he gazed westward, gleaming in silver and gold, and he knew not that in that hour he appeared as one of the Mighty of the West, and fit to be father of the kings of the Kings of Men beyond the Sea, as it was indeed his doom to be; but in the taking of those arms a change came upon Tuor son of Huor, and his heart grew great within him. And as he stepped down from the doors the swans did him reverence, and plucking each a great feather from their wings they proffered them to him, laying their long necks upon the stone before his feet; and he took the seven feathers and set them in the crest of his helm, and straightway the swans arose and flew north in the sunset, and Tuor saw them no more.' -Of Tuor and his Coming to Gondolin

It still wouldn't happen. The reason for
Frodo sending Sam away

has already been posted in another thread. I saw it somewhere and I no longer go out looking for LotR info after FotR let me down so much - so it has to be somewhere on entmoot.

There is just NO way that would happen. Not if jackson kept true to the characters of the book - but we know he didn't because all you have to do is look at Aragorn and many others.

Wow. It seems like they left out every scene I enjoyed.

All this is making me very depressed. So many good things left out!!!!! How could they not see that replacing all those important scenes (like the houses of healing! ) with.....argh! Who wants to see hours of stupid battles anyway?! Ok, JD. Where do I sign up?
