Anne McCaffrey's version of the dragon sounds really cool - they're really playful, and affectionate.

Mine's the phoenix. Very powerful symbolism, the bird that is reborn from its ashes.
Incidentally, this is artfully expressed in the lyrics of an Ani Difranco song, "32 Flavors": "God help you if you are a phoenix / And you dare to rise up from the ash / A thousand eyes will smoulder with jealousy / While you're just flying back."

I liked the phoenix back in the X-Men days of my life - they kind of lost their splender to me nowadays, though.

Tough question for one who likes mythology too much for her own good.....
It must be dragons. I'm afraid I'm not really up to date concerning the divisions into wyvern, drakes and fireserpents. So I'll just say: dragons. I've always adored the way the dragons were described in 'Dragon Rigger' (was written by Jeffrey Carver I believe, I have a bad memory for names) Although gryphons are quite nice too. And nayads,.... and hamadryads.... and ....I'll better stop here.

I really love all mythical beasts but I think my very favorites would have to be The Evil Maniacal Pink Fluffy Killer Bunnies. Dragons are a close second though and Gryphons are third.

He's not nice! As a representative of Hell, I am quite insulted on his behalf!

Not nice at ALL!
Shall we get off this slightly off-topic subject please?

Right then..
Phoenixes are my favorite mythological beast (quite a mouthful, no?), mainly because of their ability to be reborn.

Yes let us keep religion away from this subject.
I like black flying horses and silver winged dragons. I also like Sycocy a creature I invented along time ago. I have improved him each year. Sycocy is a breed of Noire morphs (which you can find out about in the character thread.) He has a greyhound like body and head, but has small ears like a lion. he or she has large spikes running down the ridge of its back. And its tail is long with a large fluffy tip. If sycocy curles up into a ball and spins extremly fast than it can slice anything in its path. it also has mewtwo eyes. I will try and get a picture of it onto this sight. I agree with the dragon lovers on this thread. Dragons rock. They are very historical creatures and are used in many stories. It also has many different forms like the chinese dragon compared to the English dragon.

How can you think that some guy who dresses in a red spandex suit with horns, a pitchfork, and a pointy tail is anything but mythological?
