Re: This is a no-brainer!!!

Well, I'll have to disagree with you. The part I prefer is the heroic death of Boromir! And the book assosciated with it

no debate needed

i have to say that all of LotR is my favorite. it's divided into 3 (or 6) parts, but is all one story & is much better together than each part is on its own

Re: no debate needed

You're right about that Aryne, as much as one can like one these 3(6) books, it's nothing with the others completing it!

One masterful work to unite them all and In Middle-Earth bind them.

Re: What's your favorite book in the trilogy?

The Two Towers; for one thing, it has the Battle of Helm's Deep; and for another, I felt that Legolas's character was the most interesting in that one, moreso than in the other two.

There are, of course, other reasons; but those are two of the main ones. (Another one would be that Pippin's and Meriadoc's characters are also very interesting in that book).

Re: Favorite book - Spoiler alert for 1st-timers!

someone (IP?) wrote in another thread that LotR was one book & should be read as if the divisions between Books 3/4 & 5/6 were no more than the divisions between, say, Books 1/2. i agree with that.

Re: Favorite book - Spoiler alert for 1st-timers!

I have to say that my favourite is the RK. Just the whole tone of the story. Frodo's farewell at the Havens, Gandalf facing down the Nazgul, Merry's oath to Theoden, Pippin's to Denethor and Aragorn etc.
The way the hobbits are looked at in Bree and the Shire on their return...

"The Two Towers" is my favorite part of the trilogy because I enjoy reading about the ents, also I feel that when Wormtongue and Saruman were trapped together in Isenguard it was true poetic justice.

I would have to say theat the Return of the King would have to be my favorite. Considering that Gondor is my 2nd favorite place, behind Gondolin. The description of Gondor is just awesome.

I would say the The Return of the King would DEFINATELY be my favorite book. It has all the good parts in it; The Field of Cormallen, The Steward and the King, The scouring of the Shire and the Grey Havens. My favorite chapter would be The Grey Havens because that is such a perfect ending to LOTR.

Oh no! the Fellowship of the Ring, book one. I love all The Shire stuff, the Old Forest, Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Downs. Also Bree.

I'd say ROTK. Has the best of all worlds.

I would say ROTK. It is where we find out how everything turns out. I love the ending. You think all is done and then there are the Shire happenings.

hmm;this is a tough one...
I'd have to say The Two Towers is my favorite. It's where most of the action occurs. Also the characters of Merry and Pippin are developed quite a bit there, and we meet Treebeard. Not to mention, it's where my favorite character comes in: Eowyn!

Return of the King is abolutley my favorite of the trilogy! In the last several series that I've read, the last book has been my favorite. I like to see how all the loose ends are tied up and how everything comes together.

Sleep, my baby, on my bosom,
Warm and cozy, it will prove,
Round thee mother’s arms are folding,
In her heart a mother’s love.
There shall no one come to harm thee,
Naught shall ever break thy rest;
Sleep, my darling babe, in quiet,
Sleep on mother’s gentle breast.

Sleep serenely, baby, slumber,
Lovely baby, gently sleep;
Tell me wherefore art thou smiling,
Smiling sweetly in thy sleep?
Do the angels smile in heaven
When thy happy smile they see?
Dost thou on them smile while slumb’ring
On my bosom peacefully.

Strider Return of the King

My favorite Chapter of all is "The scouring of the Shire", and I pray that this will be coverewd in the movie. I have heard (on this site) that it may not be covered. I just thought it was great how Merry and Pippin (Frodo and Sam as well) take charge at the Battle of Bywater and win the day. They are truly two of the greatest heroes Middle Earth has ever seen!
