You know, I'm starting to resent all this attention. I would rather that the candidates had some though question coming to them! I'm not the one running for president anymore!

8 presidents are enough!

or,

or,

2+2+2+2 = 8 8 presidents are enough.

After some soul-searching and serious consideration, I have accepted Acalewia's offer to be her vice presidential running mate for this election :-).

Ah, is this like when Medvedev becomes President, and Putin steps down to become Prime Minister?

Be quiet. It's nothing of the sort. Acally is WAY the most dedicated candidate running. I'm just tagging along. I wanted to do more fore Entmoot. Maybe relive the glory days to some extent.

Ah yes, good idea

EDIT: Done!

And don't anyone think this lets you off the hook with those questions! I will post them soon. I'm brooding over a particularly hairy question right now. A few moldy ones, too.

Oh gosh, Hector going for another place of power. If he gets elected we won't stop hearing about it... >_<

About those questions, make sure they're green too.

You know.. I'm starting to think that this election is going to be more left up to the fates rather than voted...

Especially since there is a very conspicuous lack of political questions...

Questions for the Candidates

Attention all candidates! These questions are not all easy to answer. However, they are meant to bring out telling responses from the candidates. How well can you grasp a question like: "did the Peter Jackson movies make Galadriel look fat?" The degree to which understand what's at stake in this question will determine how voters look at you. Do not be hasty in your answers, but neither put them off until the night before the exam. Be creative. Good luck to you all! The real answers will be given after all the candidates have answered satisfactorily.

#1. What does Entmoot need that you can deliver?

#2. Did Peter Jackson use the cartoon Return of the King as a model for his film?

#3. Once in office, what will you do in regards to Fangorn/Entmoot's contentious relations with Mirkwood? Who will you send to Mirkwood as ambassador?

#4. What will you do to try and get rid of the 90-second rule?

#5. What will you do about the current mess of the Swiss Bank of Entmoot? How will you keep it from falling apart without bankrupting the government and the voters?

#6. What about MootCare?

#7. Why is there a pony tied in the back alley of the Admins & Mods Administration Building? To whome does it belong? Why should I care?

#8. Why is the chocolate supply in Fangorn always decreasing and never increasing, despite constant influx of chocolate import?

#9. Short essay question: Who is your favorite Tolkien character? Explain why. Explain how this character has inspired your decision to run for president, and why this character's ideals are right for everyone.

#10. Last but not least: What will you do to make Tolkien, his works, and Entmoot better-known and deservedly loved by the world?

Like I said, all the correct answers will be posted later.

#1. What does Entmoot need that you can deliver?

Fun threads and witty posts, along with tons of exciting topics! It needs MORE fun threads etc, it already has some, but we'll give it more. Also more Quote Game posts. And more love for the C.S. Lewis threads.

#2. Did Peter Jackson use the cartoon Return of the King as a model for his film?

We haven't seen it and suggest that we need to throw dice for it.

1. Yes, he did use it as a model.
2. He used it as an inspiration, not a model.
3. He used some scenes.
4. He tried to avoid the worst scenes.
5. He used it as a model for how not to make his own film.
6. No, he didn't use it at all.

#3. Once in office, what will you do in regards to Fangorn/Entmoot's contentious relations with Mirkwood? Who will you send to Mirkwood as ambassador?

As a previous president, I feel confident that hectorberlioz would be a good diplomat to send to Mirkwood to smooth things over. And if things do not get smoothed over, he will also be an excellent hostage!

#4. What will you do to try and get rid of the 90-second rule?

At the moment, I have no admin experience, so I don't know what I can do, but I would do whatever I could to get it removed/reduce the time to perhaps the 60- or 30-second rule. I would also try to get rid of or reduce the ... I think it's 120 second rule... on PMs. Trust us, we will definitely at least discuss it with the mods.

#5. What will you do about the current mess of the Swiss Bank of Entmoot? How will you keep it from falling apart without bankrupting the government and the voters?

We have a Swiss bank? If this is a democracy, then my first act as president will be to inform all the current 'Mooters about the issues (like the fact that we have a bank!) that are overtaking Entmoot!

As to the issue with the bank, I would encourage our 'Mooters to put their talents to use to stimulate the Mooting economy - those who have bartending or baking talents can arbitrarily charge Mirkwoodian customers whatever they want for their wares. If Nautipus doesn't protest, we might be able to charge admission to his aquarium. We could also start a garden and sell what is grown there - basically all our bankruptcy problems would be taken care of by Mirkwood, who are more than capable of covering all our costs (we've heard about their treasures and they obviously have no problem spending it on quality things, like the wine of Dorwinion). However, we would need an excellent diplomat to keep Mirkwood from knowing what the cause of our friendliness and willingness to trade is (and also as a buffer should they ever discover our real motives).

#6. What about MootCare?

I would begin a process of making the Teacup more portable, so that when a new one must be created, the new creator has only to push a button and everything pops back up in approximately the same area it was before, nicely arranged and everything, even if the shape of the new building is different than the old. I would hire a couple of groundskeepers too, and maybe a bouncer, just for fun.

#7. Why is there a pony tied in the back alley of the Admins & Mods Administration Building? To whome does it belong? Why should I care?

It's a spare pony for our RPGs, if one gets tired or hurt or runs off, we know right where we can get another. It is sort of like an emergency fund and is always filled, so there is always a pony back there, even if it is not always the same one. Unless you participate in RPGs which involve horses, you shouldn't care. Also unless you enjoy horses and then you could go spend time with it and care for it. In addition to that it is the responsibility of the RPG participants to look after it, so no one else needs to worry (unless they want to volunteer.)

#8. Why is the chocolate supply in Fangorn always decreasing and never increasing, despite constant influx of chocolate import?

We haven't really researched the issue, but we're guessing it's because of our increasing need for chocolate. We can think of several people who love chocolate on this board and thus, it is a necessity. For those of you who are worried, chocolate consumption will not decrease if Midge/Varna are elected! We will support any effort to increase the supplies, as well.

#9. Short essay question: Who is your favorite Tolkien character? Explain why. Explain how this character has inspired your decision to run for president, and why this character's ideals are right for everyone.

Sam is our favorite character. He has so much at home, gardens and the Gaffer and Rosie Cotton and all the ale he could ask for, but he loves Frodo enough to leave his home and comforts and go into the greatest danger with him. Near the end, he is still faithful to Frodo, despite having lived through the temptation of the Ring and having had to trek through Mordor, Orcs and more Gollum than anyone would ever want - he gave up all hope of his future to help Frodo achieve what Middle-Earth needed most. The Ring would not have been disposed of if it weren't for Sam, as a matter of fact, it probably would have been returned to Sauron, or taken by Gollum and hidden for several hundred more years before being found and returned to Sauron.

We think the one thing that speaks most about his good character is how he reacted to the Ring. When he put it on, he didn't see himself as a king, or as a warrior, or as having any sort of power. He saw himself making Middle-Earth into a huge garden. If that's not endearing, we don't know what is. When Frodo demanded it back, Sam was able to take the Ring from his own neck and hand it to Frodo - his love for his master outweighed the temptation of the Ring. He was able to think outside the bearing of the Ring, with the thought that he was just a simple hobbit and all his due was a small patch of ground to work with his own hands.

The book ends with Sam, as well, which means Sam was the main character of the book, not Frodo or Aragorn, though of course the whole story of Middle-Earth extends far beyond this one time period.

Leading Entmoot is our small patch of garden.

#10. Last but not least: What will you do to make Tolkien, his works, and Entmoot better-known and deservedly loved by the world?

Whatever we can and whatever we think of!
We are already making an effort to make Tolkien better known by making websites about him - at http://eq5.net/tolkien/ and http://dorthonion.net/.
We're even linking to Entmoot from those sites!

Besides, we'll talk to our friends and colleagues about Tolkien and his works, whenever the time is suited for it (and even sometimes when it isn't).

I have found Hector's secret plan to take over the 'Moot. I release it here so you can see how he should be President for Life!

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akura! te speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve ! vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.
