That was an early rumor... but 50 additional minutes would only kick it up to about 4:10. Theatrical version was 3:20, right?

It has 50 additional minutes, but no one has clearly said that some of that time wont be given to things like the credits. I heard that almost five minutes would be given to the LotR fan club aknowledgments section of the extended version. Also I heard that the rumour of the aditional 5+ hours was taking into account the supplemental discs, the additianl appendecies footage.

I don't thin it will be 5 hours including the appendices because they appendices are usually at least an hour each.

Enjoy some of the best RotK Extended Edition coverage I have seen so far. Although this toubles me:

"Then the mouth of sauron shows them the vest that Frodo wears. Aragorn tells him you shall speak for Sauron no more and gets into a sword fight with him. Aragorn wins by slicing the mouth of Saruon's head"

This is exactlly what we didn't want....

It's not officially confirmed but that website does have a bit of evidence to kid of back it up. Though It may not be the case as even that website says there are a few possibilities.

That was interesting! I liked their spelling of Oliphaunt through out. I mean, Olifant?

On December 14, see even more of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with the Special Extended Edition DVD and VHS releases! This all-new version of the film includes over 50 minutes of never-before-seen footage integrated into the original theatrical release.

The DVD release is a 4-disc set, featuring two discs loaded with extra features.
This is from the official Lordoftherings.net website! The link can be found here!
Guess it will be a Christmas release after all.

Well i for one didnt mind Sarumans death, certainly nothing worth getting worked up over. Sure id prefer a scouring of the shire end but anyway.
In fact the scene with Saruman was great, where he tries to talk to Theoden about peace man i could feel Theodens rage.
I dont kniow which of the new scenes i like best, anyone got any favorites themselves?

that bit was great, what didnt you like about it
Now there is one horrific bit in the special features which was talked about in some thread here about Aragorn fighting Sauron. thank god it goes no further than special features.

Aragorn went there and brought an army with him for the express purpose of buying Frodo and Sam time. The usual thing two armies do is parlay. The parlay never ends with one parlayer whipping out a sword and decapitating the other. Yes they do show the mithril shirt, and that temporarily demoralizes the army. But Aragorn rightly realises that if Sauron really had the ring, he wouldn't be playing head games like that. But he should be stalling, not decapitating the other side's messenger. I agree. That's exactly what we don't want.

And... it's not in the book. hehehe sorry, had to say it.

ya i agree thats a terrible idea it even completely contradicts that idea in the book:

Quote:
"Aragorn said naught in answer, but he took the other's eye and held it, and for a moment they strove thus; but soon, though Aragorn did not stir nor move hand to weapon, the other quailed and gave back as if menaced with a blow. "I am a herald and ambassador, and may not be assailed!" he cried. "Where such laws hold," said Gandalf, but it is also the custom for ambassadors to use less insolence. But no one has threatened you. You have naught to fear from us."

I know! Wouldn't that line sound great coming from Gandalf?

Another chance for a great line lost, just like the Oliphaunt song.

(But I intend to enjoy the EE to its fullest anyway!)
