Entlover, that's awesome that you got it published! Very cool indeed.

Thanks for the kind words, Lizra!

Hobbit, I typed in short story contest and there are approximately 323,000 sites with contests (give or take) -- lots anyway. Rather than enter contests I would just settle for getting published however. Write some short stories for your school paper. Or maybe there's a literary magazine at your school? If not, you could start one.
The quickest way to get my book is from barnesandnoble.com.
I've been saying that it's for mature 15 year olds and up because I think it would be boring for people younger than that.

I did a review at Barnes and Noble, and a different one at Amazon. Hope that helps!

I also "plugged" it on "The Barrow Downs", "What are you reading" thread.

Yeah, there is one (a literary mag) but I don't really like it. Maybe 50 people in the school read it - and that is a very high estimate. It is probably less (that is low considering that there are over 2200 ppl in my highschool). It is mostly poems and the stories imo are not that good. They usually also do not use stories longer than a few pages.

It is not that well distributed either - few are made and the 15 or so members of the club try to sell them to their friends - usually no one buys them. It is not very well advertised or thought out - I wouldn't even really know how to submit for it and my other activities conflict with it PLUS it costs membership dues to join - not for me A majority of the school does not even know it exists.

I'd rather submit stuff I write to a contest where it might be published where more people would read it and/or I would get some sort of recognition.

No stories in the school newspaper, but it is free and delivered to everyone in the school and hundreds of students and teachers read it. People actually see what you write. Thanks for the suggestion though - maybe I'll see if the small literary magazine will print something I write.

I'll see if i can get a copy of your book

Thanks, Lizra! I can't wait to see your reviews.
You do a lot of writing, I see your (wise) comments all over the moot.
Hobbit, maybe you should write a column for your newspaper. About politics, or advice to the lovelorn , or maybe book reviews. There you go -- review my book! And other stuff -- have you read the new Harry P? Review that.

I could ask the editors - but I don't think they do reviews - i've never seen any. Ben is the Political Analyst for the paper :P

Ya gotta be enthusiastic -- ask your friends what they'd like to see inthe paper and give it to them. Then say to the editor "Say, what this paper really needs is a regular column of: movie reviews, book reviews, dating advice, scientific discoveries, famous events that happened on this date . . . or any other interesting stuff you can think of. Do a cartoon. Satirize the teachers (gently).
Suggestions only. Our paper was called the Helicon and had the worst stuff in it, but the cover was cool because I did it

That's not an insult, it's just that a lot of description, etc might be boring for younger people.
People tend to think it's a kids book, which it's not -- I wouldn't read it to my children, even though I would read them LotR. So I'm trying to offset that.

CONGRATULATIONS on the book, Entlover!

I actually did a research project in eighth grade (my final paper--a whole FIVE pages! ) about books and the history therof. iUniverse was part of my final bit about internet publishing, but you're the first person I know who's done it.

I may look into it...we'll see.

And I'll look for buying it as well, only I'll have to get a parent to do it for me, as I can't buy online, and that might take a while.

No joke.
I love Norse mythology--can't wait to read your book!
