I'm not sure, but could this be Gandalf telling of his battle with Durin's Bane?

His fire was quenched, but now he
was a thing of slime, stronger

speaker is indeed Gandalf

So, I guess it's my turn? If so, how about one that may be a bit difficult (especially the speaker):

Y_t/_/h_v_/h_a_d/_h_t/_o_r/_o_s_/h_s/_h_/f_v_u_/o_/t_e/
_o_d/_f/_a_e_s./_n_/i_/h_s/_o_n_e_s/_e_d/y_u/_o/T_r_o_,/
t_e_/s_r_l_/s_a_l/_o_/c_m_/t_/h_m,/_i_h_r_o_v_r/_o_/t_r_./
f_l_o_/n_w/_h_/r_a_/t_/w_i_h/_h_/w_t_r/_a_/b_o_g_t/_o_/
f_o_/t_e/_i_l_,/a_d/_e_r/_o_./_o_/s_a_./_o_/w_l_/l_n_/i_/
d_r_n_s_./F_r_w_l_./A_d/_h_n_/n_t/_h_n_/n_t/_h_t/_u_/
m_e_i_g/_a_/b_/c_a_c_;/f_r/_h_/D_e_l_r/_n/_h_/D_e_/m_v_s/
_a_y/_h_n_s/_n/_h_s/_a_d/_t_l_./_n_r/_a_l_v_/t_e_y_n_a!

Warning! For the last few words think Elvish.

errrrrr.... no, it is not your turn. *swats Tuor of Gondolin's hand*

The words: well (it has 3 letters!) and whither are wrong.

I'll give you "foundationS" since you have foundation. (Mercy! there IS a letter space after the 'n'!!!)

The speaker is indeed Gandalf. But the quote is not solved yet.

And I probably won't check it for about 1000 years, it's 1:30am and I'm going to sleep. Yes, even Elves need sleep every once in a while.

I guess the missing words are 'Yes' and 'thither'.

If I'm right I give my turn to Tuor of Gondolin, sicne he has already posted his quote.

"Yet I have heard that your house has the favour of the Lord of Waters. And if his _o_n_e_s send you to Turgon, then surely shall you come to him, withersoever you turn. Follow now the road to which the water has brought you from the hills, and fear not. _o_/s_a_./ _o_/walk long in darkness. Farewell. And think not that our meeting was by chance; for the Dweller in the Deep moves many things in this land still. Anar kaluva tielyanna!"

The speaker is either Arminas or Gelmir. I'm guessing Gelmir.

Speaker is Gelmir.

Actually, I didn't think I really deserved to go next (obviously incomplete, sem-accurate solving), but since it seemed confirmed that the speaker was identified, I thought that on technical grounds I was supposed to.

"thither" is correct. "Yes" is incorrect. But Tuor of Gondolin's has gone. So, I'll just solve the friggin' thing myself!

"YET it has a bottom, beyond light and knowledge. Thither I came at last, to the uttermost foundations of stone. He was with me still. His fire was quenched, but now he was a thing of slime, stronger than a strangling snake." - Gandalf

I guess since we started a new thread, the rules have changed. Let me know what the new rules are. I just don't see what the point of watching this thread for posts if people aren't going to wait for you to confirm.

The rules have not changed, and you can read them in the first post. The person to identify the last element, be it speaker, quote, or both, goes next. Although it isn't stated in the rules, please be sure to wait for confirmation before posting your quote.

Okay, Tuor is new to the game and I don't think he understood the rules, but I'm sure he does now. Tuor, everything has to be solved. Every word and the speaker.

Artanis, I would say that you should go next since you were the closest to solving both quotes. Ruinel and Tuor gave the answers away before they were solved. So, your go.

OK, here's a short one:

_i_l/_h_y/_o_e/_o/_t_/e_d."

No thank you. Nice of you to offer though.

errrr... only because Tuor had started a new quote and others were posting to it. I really didn't see the point of having TWO quotes going on at the same time.

And thanks for reposting the rules for everyone who doesn't know.
