Elf Girl: Either when sauron was defeated and Ilsidur was killed ( along with the people in the battle) but the Ring was safe (sorta kinda) for 3000 years (until Bilbo found it, or was it 2500 years the Ring was in the river?)
Or, when all the dwarves die in the Battle of Five Armies to get the Lonely Mountain's gold.

Bilbo's pitty gave Gollum a new part to play in th ewhol life of the ring which led to a death that could have been different? I don't know my best idea wasn't right. This is harder then it looks.

I'll repost my riddle for reference:

A question hard,
The stolen gold,
Will save,
Though dear the price would be.

No one is right, but it is in the Hobbit.

[edit] Whoops, sorry, didn't see your post, cass! If the answer is that riddle, it goes to cass; she got there first.

The Ring is a gold ring. The riddle was a "question hard", both for Gollum and Bilbo. The "dear price"...that I'm not sure on, but the rest of it fits.

That's Ok, TC. I agree with TC, the stolen gold is the ring Smeagol stole, a question hard is the riddle, will save is, I think, Bilbo's life and dear price is the war of the ring or something to do with it. We will have to wait for Elf girl.

The "dear price" was indeed the War of the Ring.

It became the worst,
Nightmare of the friends,
Before the mountain ends.
