Never-ending indeed. Read The Children of Hurin instead - just as depressing, but read as a narrative it's still better than the UT version (with all its interruptions). I always skip the Narn when I read anything in UT, but I read CoH and enjoyed the story (apart from the depression).

You know what - wait for the correct spellings. I remember the first one now - but would have to make some guesses with alternate letters in the second.

But the reason I say this - I felt sort of guilty solving, but I love those characters so much (father, brothers... you know!

) - but I'm out of town for a few days and won't be able to monitor progress on a solution. I leave early tomorrow morning.

So - let someone else complete the solve, and I'll be back soon.

Varna - where is "The Children of Hurin"? That sounds like it might be in a HoME, which I'm only fortunate to own ... I think the first book of lost tales.

It's not in HoME, it's a book of it's own, published last year or so. Christopher Tolkien finally put all the bits of narrative together in one story.

He did. I only wish he would do the same for Tuor and Gondolin. But that's not as close to a finished version ...
