Yes! Another eagle fan! You have to admit it is amusing the way they always swoop in at the very last minute to save the day.

No, I'm a cat

How would that be pronounced? I can do Nyet, but the rest makes me quiver in fear of Bad Russian Mispronunciation.

Book-a-minute says the eagles are Deus ex Machinas. I think that's wrong. I think they're Dei ex Machina....

I have no idea. I've been pronouncing it just like it looks, but that could be terribly horribly wrong. I don't acctually know Russian, I just liked that phrase so I remembered it from somewhere.

What's Book-a-minute? I've been trying to find a Russian-English dictionary (so I can say Frodo Lives in Russian ) but every one I've found has translated things into Russian character too, so i can't read it.

I don't really know how to explain book-a-minute...it's a parody site, that crunches books into about a page of dialogue.

If I recall rightly, the summary for "Return of the King" went something like this--

::Gandalf:: You will all die.
*they don't.*
::Gandalf:: Gondor will fall.
*it doesn't*
*A bunch of winged Deus ex machinas come down and save the day*

And as a point of fact, hobbits are stronger than the general human. This is not to put humans down, but rather a simple truth.
I think that the humans are stronger then the hobbits. (maiby not in there inside power but defenetly from the outside one.

Actually, since they are 'stouter' than us, they ARE probably stronger, due to thicker bones, and musculature.

Elves no doubt

stout has several meanings so thicker bones and musculature do not NECESSARILY follow

it COULD mean Strong in body; sturdy.

but also simply to a superabundance or excess of flesh.

or stout could also mean brace

yeah but I'd whoop ass with STOUT adolesent in any of those above definitions

Quote:
Pippin says they know some wrestling tricks
that does not consistute great muscle power

the hobbits had greater endurance than COMMON men

But against the High men i don't think they are a match

the ring had changed gollum
i don't think i would correct to call him a hobbit

just as I would not call nazgul men

Quote:
Or whack off an orc head with a piece of wood?
that tale is not necessarily a true tale. the defeat of the orc yes but golfimbul maybe be fictitious or facetious

see:

comp. guide to ME

someone mentioned about hobbits ONLy had the strength to carry the ring

But frodo, failed, it corrupted gollum. Dwarves were not servants to their rings per se, so they may have been a better choice

also look at the greatest hobbit warriors IF we take the story of bullroarer and golfimbul to be true he knocked the head of an orc

compare hurin the greatest human warrior he slew 70 trolls AFTER already being in battle for against the other servant of morgoth so turgon could retreat

Gandalf Re to afro elf

so you didn't decided who is to your opinion is right?
I don't know the first story but I could say that it's more difficult to kill 70 trolls then one orc.
I could say to the hobbits that Frodo didn't died when from Nazgul's sword in the start.

I'd say, that hobbits had more endurance than normal men, as well as willpower, but I don't think, that they were physically stronger. There was no straight mentions about hobbit strength, but Tolkien told many times, that they could survive in hardest of situations, becouse their love for life, or something like that.

Yeah, but you have to consider that Men are more WARLIKE than Hobbits. Would that the Hobbits be as violent as Men, then I have no doubt that they'd whoop arse. No matter, that they are shorter than us. It is as an earlier poster said, they are more hardy, and can endure more than us.

being more hardy does not equate great strength nor does it equate better war skills

i don't think they would ever be a kick as group of warriors
