In Norway, that's sometimes the only way to get doctors to some of the more remote Northern places (not so much the Northern city hospitals) - which reminds me that Norway reaches quite a bit further north than what Sweden does.

It's not very good for those areas to change to a new doctor every year

Well, the Swedish cities in northern Lapland lure interns with massive paychecks, they pay some of their student loans, they pay for the actual move plus lots of other huge benefits.

That's certainly more appealing than "oh crap, I didn't get Oslo. I'm sent to Longdarkwinters-byen, population ten, including the polar bears". Especially when it seems the Norwegian interns seem to get the same pay no matter where they end up

Indeed more appealing.

There are other professions in Norway - teachers? church ministers? doctors after their internship? - that offer benefits for people going that far north. At least some of what you do.

A place like Svalbard, although much further north, is hugely popular for such reasons.
I think Svalbard is VAT free - that's quite something.

Sounds a bit like teaching in Alaska. I've heard that they'll pay for you to move out there and you're almost guaranteed a job, but you'll probably live in a cabin in the middle of the woods and have to be careful of bears.

reminds me of the old joke about it being easy for a woman to move to Alaska and get married - "the odds are good, but the goods are odd ... "

I'm going to make that into a bumper sticker. Or possibly a shirt.

My dad worked in the fishy place in Alaska in his youth. He's kind of an odd one, but in a good way.

The other day a friend told me that my face looked different after I shaved off the beard from how it looked before I had the beard. I've had a few comments like that. Then the other day my friend told me she figured out what it was... apparently I have caught "the Adult," and signs of it are starting to show . Hopefully I wont be too horrible deformed by the Adult.

I'm actually really happy about that. I always hated looking like a high-schooler, and I feel like I don't (as much) any more.

Well then I guess my "happy" post for the day can be that a girl asked me "You're a student, right?" Always makes my day. There was one girl a few weeks ago who was sitting at my table during study hall, just talking, texting, swearing, etc. She was very surprised to find out I was a teacher! Lucky for her I'm a pretty laid back one.

Impossibles! You have the essence of kyoot, thus rendering you immune to the Adults.

*cough* Whatevs, brah... I'm all up in the hizzle with appearing ADULT now, yo?

....

It's a work in progress. >.>

Another happy is that I saved the shirt that I was wearing when I threw up! The gym shorts and socks are trash now, but after four cycles in the washer my shirt is saved. It wouldn't be a big deal, except that it's a "Cast shirt" from one of the musicals I was in... so it's kind of a special shirt to me.

Survived yet another Oktoberfest, with corny German music, good friends and tasty snacks. Oh, and beer of course

Sounds fun! There was a party at my house last night, I survived that too, apparently. Was lots of fun.

No, mostly techno and some Lady Gaga and Ke$ha and the like. Some of it made me want to go to a club, but I'd have to go all the way to Chicago for that.

Oh that sounds interesting! I'd love to get a job somewhere remote. Though I think my family may chain me to the house to make sure I don't leave the country again or something

Heh, I read this after posting my comment in the pic thread, but I noticed the exact same thing.

You like that? It always annoys me. But then, I'm so obviously not of student age that it has to be some sort of joke if someone says that to me. But still, I don't like it when people think I'm younger than I am.

I didn't like it at first. When you're sixteen, you want to be regarded as sixteen, dammit, not as twelve! The horror! But then I reckoned that at one point in my life, I'd be considering it a compliment. So I've learned to live with the fact that I still look like a teenager even as I'm nearing the big three. I now find it fun that people are still asking me if I'm a student.

If only I had more guts, or less honesty, I'd still be getting low student rates everywhere.
