My thought is that the term "man", like nearly all else in this thread, is being used highly loosely. Beleg, Fingon, and Maglor, by the way, are gorgeous.

Mwehehe... I had this "thing" (in the context of this thread, of course) for Beren, but that's unrealistic. Luthien would kill me (I mean... if she can defeat Morgoth with a song!) so I decided it was time to end this painful and unrequited ... thing... in favour of someone who just might return my affections.

Well, I should have titled the thread; "Males of the Silmarillion" but Eru although mentioned as a "he" is god and a spirit, more than any male in the story. Just a little nitpick at you Crys.

Yeah, but "Men of the Silmarillion" sounds better. Maybe it should have been "Men who can die of the Silmarillion".

Hrm...

*makes a T-shirt that says 'Gil-galad fangirl'*

Nope, too obvious... *ponders*

Men who can die of the Silmarillion, or Men (who can die) of the Silmarillion?
To die of the Silmarillion would be quite a sad fate, indeed.

Mmmm...I guess I'm safe, if Gandalf can "die" then Aiwendil prolly can too.

Come now, Lenya. We've got Manwe's permission, and how can you gainsay him?

Of course, I personally have nothing against Beleg. Especially since he went to the Nirnaeth without the King's permission... honestly, that makes Thingol look almost as bad as spineless Orodreth...

I never thought I'd add a quote about Tur*n to my sig, but when it means "Tur*n, master of fate mastered by fate", I simply can't resist.

Well? Where did everyone go?

And you left the cages wide open!

*quickly shuts doors before the Men of the Silm can escape*

I still can't believe there aren't hordes of Gil-Galad fangirls. Maybe it's just as well. He is a bit untouchable though, if you know what I mean.

But still...
Large Gil-Galad picture from the movies

There's no official art (Howe, Lee, or Nasmith) of him, but he was the High King... and elves are naturally fair of face...

I have a warm spot in my heart for Mr. Gil - when I read the Gil-Galad poem in LOTR, it really moved my heart for some reason and gave me a longing for Things Elvish, in a way none of the other elves in LOTR did, except Glorfindel. I then found the Sil and fell in love with it! So altho Gil-Galad himself is not one of my favorite things in the LOTR legendarium, the poem about him IS, so his name always brings a smile to my face

*goes off hand in hand with Tuor and Fingon, humming, "of him the harpers sadly sing..."
