Alrighty, let's see here....
TFotR: 1) Gandalf-- Ian McKellan Gandalf's best performance. Everything from the voice to the walk makes him a very believable Gandalf.  2) Boromir-- Sean Bean Really, good ol' Boromir deserves spot #1. Sean portrayed him so well, and was dead on to book Boromir. 3) Sam-- Sean Astin Of course! Sam was brilliant, right down from his speech to his hobbity face. TTT: 1) Eowyn-- Miranda Otto Simply the best female character ever made in the book, and Miranda portrayed that very well. 2) Sam-- Sean Astin Even better than in Fellowship. 3) Gollum-- Andy Serkis Nobody could have made a better Gollum. The voice, the movements.... Andy almost made me like Gollum.  TRotK: 1) Sam-- Sean Astin He was definately the best! Hooray for Sam!! 2) Aragorn-- Viggo Mortensen Return of the King really made me notice Aragorn. Viggo made Aragorn get on to my list of favourites. 3) Eowyn, Pippin and Faramir all are tied for this one. I don't know why, I just thought they all did an excellent job. Overall: 1) Sam-- Sean Astin Like you couldn't see that coming.  Sam was the best! Sean got his personality perfect. He looks like I always pictured Sam, pots on the back and all. Sam always had the tear-jerking moments, the most humourous moments.... Sam has always been one of my favourite characters, and Sean really made me feel proud to be a Sam fan.2) Eowyn-- Mirando Otto All I really need to say about her is when I mentioned her in TTT. 3) Gollum-- Andy Serkis Once again, my full opinion is in TTT. And just for fun: The Worst: Gothmog-- I always imagined him as this really tall Orc, fully armoured, with a helm upon his head and an axe in his hand. Not some peach, eyeless, popcorn-head THING.  Elrond-- Hugo Weaving does NOT know how to play an Elf. Denethor-- Um....'nuff said.

Galadriel: I think Cate Blanchett is beautiful, and the golden hair was excellent The Balrog: those little bytes and killibytes are great actors Boromir: Sean Bean rocks! TTT Theoden: Bernard is an excellent old king-guy. Cant blame him for PJ's mistakes Eomer: Whoever the guy was was cool Arwen: I will probably get shot for this, but Liv Tyler did do a good job with the role, and at least here she didnt fight. ROTK Theoden: see above Pippin: I think he did a good job. Not such a joke anymore either. Sam: still kickin' overall Theoden Boromir Galadriel I dont really have a worst. Its not the actors fault that they're characters were destroyed.

Okay, I've been looking for the right thread to post this question in, so I apologize if this aint the one.
What is a Lurtz? I keep reading about it, but I have no idea where it came from. Maybe it was something in the movie that I missed or something. Pleas help me.

Yeah... Lurtz is the uruk that kills Boromir whose head Aragorn cuts off after his arm. He's EEEEEEEEEEVIL!!!! He killed Boromir!

FELLOWSHIP:
(1) Gandalf - Ian McKellen (He's Gandalf. I'd only read 'The Hobbit' when I saw The Fellowship, and he and Bilbo are the ones that I knew and that I hoped would be right. Ian McKellen's Gandalf is simply PERFECT) (2) Samwise Gamgee - Sean Astin (He's perfect. He IS Sam. That's all there is to say, really.) (3) Strider - Viggo Mortensen (His role was a little messed up, but he's flawless as our hero Aragorn) THE TOWERS: (1) Eowyn - Miranda Otto (By this time I'd gobbled up the books, and Mirando Otto is perfect for Eowyn. She's lovely, cold and tough, just as I imagined her) (2) Gollum - Andy Serkis (Oh, man, what can you say? Gollum is perfect all the way around! He's just like I imagined him in The Hobbit, and all I hoped he could be in the books) (3) Eomer - Karl Urban (He has all of the fierceness and loyalty that I would have expected his character to have. He's great!) THE RETURN: (1) Gandalf - Ian McKellen (gets it again! He's simply brilliant. I love all of his stuff in this movie) (2) Peregrin Took - Billy Boyd (Was there ever a more beloved and noble- albeit not on purpose - hobbit? I love everything with Pippin in Return!)(3) Samwise Gamgee - Sean Astin (Him too! He's so right for the role! I just love him!) OVERALL: (Ooo, so hard!) (1) Gandalf - Ian McKellen (2) Samwise Gamgee - Sean Astin (3) Aragorn - Viggo Mortensen With generous Honorable Mentions given to Andy Serkis, and Sean Bean (whose Boromir isn't exactly like I imagine him in the book, but still a very, very good portrayal of the character!)

Difficult question.
Overall, I'd go for Sean Astin, Christopher Lee and Cate Blanchett, probably because theirs were the best performances, IMO. Honourable mentions for Andy Serkis, Ian McKellen, agent Elrond and Sean Astin. |

FotR Sir Ian McKellen/Gandalf John Rhys-Davies/Gimli Ian Holm/Bilbo TTT Sir Ian Bernard Hill/Theoden Miranda Otto/Eowyn RotK Sean Astin/Sam Billy Boyd/Pippin Andy Serkis and some computer geeks/Gollum Overall Sir Ian Sean Astin John Rhys-Davies (I like dwarves) But they were pretty much all good - and more important, they all grew on me as the films went on.

as i can't decide, i will say
Viggo Mortensen as best cast actor throughout with Christopher Lee Sir Ian McKellen Sir Ian Holm Bernard Hill + Hugo Weaving all taking honourable mention and John Rhys Davies, for portraying Gimli and Treebeard, that must have been hard!! and i would also like to say John Noble, as he could have been in my list, if the Movie Denethor had been more akin to the Book Denethor |

Ian McKellen - Never has a hat been used to such good effect. Ian Holm - Brilliant in everything he does, and doubly so in this. Andy Serkiss - Made CGI watchable. Worst: Sponge-head orc thing - Not the actors fault, but what WERE the designers thinking? Hugo Weaving - Good eyebrows do NOT an elf make. Karl Urban - Looked like an Aussie soap star on a horse. Honourable mention to: Miranda Otto - She is no man! Viggo - cool |

1. Gandalf - I don't know what to say, deserving of that oscar that he should've gotten, personally movie wise, I was a bigger fan of gandalf the Grey than Gandlaf the white. 2. Boromir - amazing performance, he IS Boromir 3. Aragorn - Great, brilliant TTT 1. Theoden - Definitely well cast 2. Gollum - need I say anything 3. Eowyn - She's adorable, perfect for the part RotK 1. Samwise - definitely outshone his performance from the first two filmns 2. Aragorn - great once again, save for a few scripting problems 3. Frodo - Also his best perormance out of the three Overall 1. Gandalf - Shakespearean acting is a good start as we can see 2. Gollum - I don't know what to say 3. Sam - Film three cemented him for me...awesome
