When they first show the black riders issuing forth from Minas Morgul in FotR. You might need to pause it, but there are two kingly-looking figures on each side of the gates that greatly resemble the Argonath. I noticed that and then realized that it makes complete sense since both were built by the Gondorians and it's only logical that Isildur and Anarion would have their likenesses at both places. Very nice subtle touch.

These are a few in no particular order:
The hobbit children running after Gandalf’s cart. The map that Bilbo had in his house. The banner in Arwen’s bedroom. The workmanship of the weapons (like swords, daggers, different arrows, etc.) that went into them being individualized. I’ll also add costumes and props. Dirty Rohan faces! Oh yeah, and dirty Boromir and Aragorn hands. The orcs running in the wheels like hamsters. Quote:

Little beautiful things of Rotk
Aragorn running up the steps of the golden hall to announce the lighting of the beacons. Aragorn waking up with the knife in his hand (that Celeborn gave him in FotR EE) Aragorn wearing only his tunic. Gotta love it... Merry and Pippin singing and dancing on the table. (consolation for not having Frodo sing in the Prancing Pony) Who knows, guys...maybe Elijah Woods' voice stinks. Shelob. I know this is not a little thing but I just love Shelob. So gross. So revolting. I was so disgusted. It was perfect. Just how she should've been. (in my opinion) The orc that finds Frodo. He was a cool orc. Very orcish. (hated the elephant orc, though) Women tossing flowers onto the street... The hurt in Faramir's eyes... ALL of Faramir. I do consider this a little thing since he has so little screen time. Theoden's double take on Eowyn. loved it. Ahhh...the little things.....

Main problem is many of the nice details are ruined by some glaring oversight.
EG Argonath - fantastic, but why did they swap the weapons they were holdingh from the book - what exactly did that achieve? Fangorn - nice, but they couldn't decide what type of forest it was - it swapped from coniferous to decidious almost from shot to shot. Asfaloth was nice, apart from the woman on her back Mostly it was the usual detailing - although I preferred the effort that went into Methuseld than Minas Tirith I must admit. Oh well |

I'm a big fan of Theoden hitting the Riders' spears with his sword before the charge at Pelennor Fields.

Yes, but not within feet of each other without any sign of a change
Actually one of the details I DID like was the way the cliffs either side of the Argonath has huge areas cut out of it which was basically the 'quarry' from which the Argonath was built. |

All the little details! It was so... real! As in, if you took away the cameras and stuff you could live there... The bit that got to me the most was Meduseld, though. The details that went in to that set were absolutely amazing. I think they built it over six months, filmed there for two weeks then just demolished it, didn't they? |
