Unfortunately mine eyes were blinded by the shock (and also horror) of the scene (a thongless blackheart). Therefore, in my state of temporary blindness, I was unable to see the oncoming rock.

BUT

Then I woke up. "Aha!" I cried. "Take this!" I rewind time to the point of the rock throwing, take out my (t)rusty sword, and smack the rock right back at you.

It hit in the very place you didn't want it to.

I think I would open a scrap metal business and follow Aragorn ( at a discreet distance) and the other chaps ,and pick up all the cut off bits of armour they leave behind as they cause havod through the land - I could probably retire on the proceeds of Helms Deep.

Of course, I would have to be sure to avoid the pictures of orcs in thongs.

unless we happened to suddenly appear around the noldor or the sindar or the istari,

i think that our happy visions of ME would quickly turn to cold brutal nightmares

Hah- that's why I always have at least a .45, a hand axe, and a machette, boots, jeans, pocket knife, matches, and a weeks supply of tobacco on me at all times.

Just in case.

People at work have gotten used to it, but they make me take the pistol off when I go on a service call, which irritates me, since that's exactly when the portal will open!

Pffft. The .45 is just for emergencies.

Ammo's to scarce once you're out of range of civilization, so I would have to construct a bow to use for hunting.

Hand grenades, BFG's and landmines aren't all that good for hunting. M-16's are OK, but they don't have the knockdown power if you are hunting something bigger than a large dog, or wolf.

Can't take the chance that it's autumn harvest time you know.

Good point. Perhaps I'd consider Orthanc then: I hear it has quite a sizable area with which to study lithic technology. Failing that, there's always the settlement patterns in the Dunharrow area. Not too much of a chance to see orcs in thongs there.
