Ents, then Hobbits.

AGAIN you are basing this assumption on the fact that Hobbits do not like to seek adventure. Maybe their strength is not quite up to dwarf, but you don't know that they aren't of equal strength to men!

I'm on to you: you're persecuting Hobbits! I'm reporting you to SPCH!

I would say a tie between the horses and elves.

I really don't know you are finding in the hobbits. there are nice but... they are weak and chubby... not my type.
Only a hobbit would have had the strength of will to carry the Ring to Mt. Doom. (At least, I think Tolkien said something like that. ) Plus, they are cool.

Elves...I've always had an obsession with them. Then hobbits.

I'm just writing what I think true! (and I do think they are weak).

yes, they did carried the ring to Mt. Doom but with some help and they didn't throw the ring to the mountain(I know Isildor didn't too).

My thanks, and concerning hobbits:

My thanks, Eruviel Greenleaf, for your kind welcome. And I also thank you, Beard for your astute defence of hobbitkind.
To Radagast (correct me if I am wrong, as I am not able to see who posted each message, and have not yet memorized the names, being new to this board,) hobbits are not a weak race. Physically, they are perhaps not well noted for their brawn, but they are nimble and deft, which is sometimes better than being strong. And yet they are strong. Bardobras Took was said to have whacked an orc's head clean off with a club. In terms of fighting, they have as much skill as any other species. Their bowmanship is excellent, (as is seen in The Scouring of the Shire,) they have a definite mastery of the sling, and unlike many, can fight even without weapons of steel and wood, as they are incredibly good with aim when rock throwing.
As to their being fat, that is a common misperseption due to the reference to their being broad. Though some had the tendancy to be overweight (six meals a day plus snacks will do it to anyone, humans included,) that was not a general rule.
I hope that I am not overanalizing. Just shout If I'm babbling too much, I do have a tendancy to do that.

My respects,

Maybe this post belongs on the Weird thread, but anyway...

I have already said Elves, and now I will say why :

When I picture scenes from Middle-earth, I suddenly hear music (and this music varies from scene to scene). This is probably as a result of the way that I read LOTR and Silmarillian all the time - while listening to music. The genre of music that I listen to in this case is limited to dance, because I find this the best medium for transportation into Arda, and if you are familiar with the various subgenres, you might find the following interesting.

Elves : When any elf comes into the picture, I suddenly hear a combination of epic, uplifiting, and fluffy trance. When elves go into battle, the trance becomes harder, turning into techno, and I am subsequently bombarded with uplifting tech-trance of an alarmingly majestic nature. As elves march into battle, the progressive nature of the tune starts up, becoming more and more menacing, while keeping a strange sense of nobility. Suddenly battle begins, and I am hit with uplifting hard-house and epic goa trance, really powerful and confidence inspiring beats. I am filled with awe, as the eyes of the most powerful elves begin to glow with anger, and the beat becomes even faster and more powerful. Then, as the elves prove victorious, the climax has been reached, and the most incredible uplifting and dreamy melody is heard (no beat - this is important!), as if we somehow knew that the elves werer going to win. Then the music fades away, slowly.....

Now imagine what I hear when I picture Maiar.

Or Valar!!

Strangely I do not hear music when it comes to dwarves, ents hobbits, or eagles, etc. Corruptions, such as orcs or balrogs, usually take on a menacing, yet straightforward, pumping hard house beat, while the major bad boys, like Sauron or Morgoth, assume a deeper, eerie and sinister edge...

PS. When I am driving to work, I try to equate certain tunes with scenes from the Silmarillian. This morning I heard the PERFECT manifestation of Finrod vs Sauron. There were endorphins present...

A good point, BeardofPants! As a deeply committed member of SPCH, I will take your words under advisement.

And as a point of fact, hobbits are stronger than the general human. This is not to put humans down, but rather a simple truth.

As a test for the doubtful, why don't you go let all but six of your teeth rot out of your mouth, and see if you can bite off a finger? Or carry someone taller than you, and nearly your own weight up a mountainside? Or whack off an orc head with a piece of wood? Well, then again, it might be hard to find an orc around... Better yet: Go eat six full meals, plus snacks in between, and see if you are strong enough not to be clutching your midsection for the rest the night in overstuffed agony...

Fare well wherever you fare!

Our accounting firm (and it's not Arthur Anderson) has made a tally of the votes and the favorite(so far) is

**** opens envelope ****

Elves 14.25
Hobbits 11.5
Ents 3.75
Horses 1.5
Eagles 1.25
Dwarves .75

coneys got a mention, but Arathorn's vote went to the Ents.

Sorry about the fractional votes, some Mooters voted for 2, and one for four.

I feel sorry for the Dwarves. They got beat by the Horses and Eagles.

Elves, specifically the Green Elves of Ossiriand.

Hobbits are really the backbone of the Hobbit and LOTR, but the Silmarillion is where the Elves really come into their own...if you want to wade through the slow parts....even some real fans aren't willing to do that. (I personally don't believe there are any slow parts...but I've always been a very avid reader of Tolkien.)

I think that ents are my favorite race, but I think I might get bored of being one and decide to settle my roots. Being an elf would be much more fun. you can find excitement when you want it, but overall have a good peaceful life with plenty of food and singing. There also seems to be more companionship between the elves. I might get lonely being an ent because they seem to be more solitary.

Eagles

I can't believe more people don't want to be Eagles.

Come ON, folks, they're Bloody-big-arse-birds who can talk, and FLY, and save the day at the end of the books...

Eagle! Eagle! Eagle!
