Well, that's your opinion, Tessar. We seem to share opinions about music, but not about this. But that's ok.

Oh dear!! Well, you'd think that at least the Numenoreans, who were way more advanced as a culture, probably had something resembling modern comforts? Maybe in other places it'd be a bit more... primitive, though!

Wouldn't want to live in Rohan....

I wouldn't like any of it, I'll bet.

As I said, I already live in Hobbiton. People always up in yo' bizniz.

Tempermentally, I'm more Entwife than anything else. You know how that went...never saw such workaholic spouses as Ents.

Elf? Spare me. Live with the Lakemen? And do what? Rohan, to run a late second to his horse? Gondor? WTH are the women, there? Where is Bergil's mom?

So, I'm a Maiar. A new one. I'd have to be detailed off to creating new forms of club moss or something, because sitting on the White Council would be the dullest way to spend time EVA! "Report from Radagast, please. How are those geese down in Ithilien doing, Rad?"

No flush toilets doesn't bother me. No conversation would KILL me.

Hmmm, those forests sound intriguing though. Build a nice hut in the middle of it, stack it with enough books to last the rest of your life, a nice little veggie-garden beside it...

Actually, thinking about it more, I think I would really, really enjoy being a bard or gleeman in the Wheel of Time world. I've discovered that I'll pretty much do anything to get to sing, so... Traveling around, gathering stories and songs... If I had to live in a fantasy world, I think that's what I would pick .

Hmm.. If i had picked that world i'd be in one of the cities, probably the royal city (i can't remember its name, it's been a long time since i've read these!), as an Aes Sedai. Though of what Ajah, i don't really know. Definitely not Black(!), nor Red, nor Brown. Probably Blue. Cool, calm, and lovers of history.

As I said, I'd stack enough in the hut before leaving the outside world permanently. Become the crazy old book-collecting lady. I'm sure Middle-Earth could use one of those
Of course no book will be worth the paper it's written on if it isn't part of the crazy old lady's collection, so writers from all over will come to deliver their books. Which the crazy old lady will review and then either add it to her collection or give it back with a horrible amount of criticisms and/or corrections written inbetween the lines. Come to think of it: she'll probably do that to the books she does deem semi-fit to be collected too

Doesn't answer my question, Mari.

What gives you the idea that Middle Earth, on the whole, is literate? Who is WRITING books there? After all, Bilbo was translating lore from the Elvish. His own (and Frodo's) book was transcribed by hand and delivered by Pippin to Gondor.

No printing presses in Middle Earth. Very few books. You'd better read slowly.

Ah, party-pooper!
I'll re-read a lot. Learn Elvish. Maybe I'll try my hand at writing something myself. There were vaults with books in Rohan. I'm sure over the years they've accrued enough books to please me.

Will you let me live in my Worst Witch world which was my number one choice in the first place, without being realistic? (Because realistically I'd be too old to live there as a student. I could be a very young teacher there though)

When she's read a really good book, she can then copy it. That should take up some of her time

At the beginning of the age? Or nearing the end? Somewhere in the middle?
I must say the idea of having a dragon as a companion fascinates me, but the whole linking-thing is not something I'd enjoy.

And then the world of Narnia- if I could live in Calormen, that "least phoney" of countries, and be a Tarkaan
